Teams defending their IPL titles: Dhoni tames Gayle, ABD and Kohli; MI’s last win | Cricket News

3 min readJun 1, 2026 05:33 PM IST Royal Challengers Bengaluru waited 17 years to win the Indian Premier League (IPL). And then, they suddenly had two trophies in two years. With the victory over Gujarat Titans on Sunday, RCB have become just the third team to have succesfully defender their IPL title, with the only other sides being Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, teams that Bengaluru have shared a rivalry with but never quite matched in terms of trophy count until now. RCB are still a long way from equalling MI or CSK’s records though – the latter two sides have won a record five titles each. Here we take a look at the two previous IPL finals in which a team won the trophy for a second consecutive time. 2011 IPL final: CSK beat RCB by 58 runs CSK had won the IPL for the first time in 2010 and in the next one year, the tournament went through a bit of a storm. Founder and league commissioner Lalit Modi had been …

Director Vignesh Raja sparks outrage after defending ‘brownfacing’ of Mamitha Baiju in Dhanush-starrer Kara

Ahead of its worldwide release later this month, the action drama Kara has found itself embroiled in controversy over certain remarks its director, Vignesh Raja, made during a recent interview, with some even dubbing them “racist.” Headlined by Dhanush, Kara features Malayalam actor Mamitha Baiju as the female lead. Ever since the movie’s promotional materials were unveiled, many have been deriding the casting of a non-Tamil actor in an evidently Tamil role, claiming it was a blatant oversight of regional talent. Several netizens also wondered why there was a need to cast Mamitha and brownface her, while Tamil Nadu has enough talented actors whose skin tones would have easily matched the female lead character. During a conversation with Galatta Plus, Vignesh was asked why it was hard to find a Tamil girl to play the lead role. In response, he maintained that casting choices depended on performance, and then on marketability. Why Jitesh Sharma said Royal Challengers Bengaluru are not defending the IPL title but chasing it | Cricket News

2 min readApr 4, 2026 08:46 PM IST Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) vice captain Jitesh Sharma said that the franchise is not defending the Indian Premier League title which they won in 2025 but rather defending it. “Irrelevant, Frankly speaking. Mo Bobat, our director, clearly said we are not defending (the title). We are chasing the title. We are hungry like we were last year. Lots of people have forgotten that we are champions,” Jitesh said on Saturday ahead of RCB’s match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). “This is a new season. We have to start a new game and take one game at a time. But we have that confidence that we have achieved something. With that confidence, we are just going forward,” he added. Sharma, who was a vital cog in RCB’s title-winning campaign last year said that being the vice-captain and the whole leadership experience has added a certain edge to his game. “I think whenever you get the responsibility, you feel grateful and privileged and I take extra effort to give …

Eugenio Chacarra minimises mistakes, maximises gain to edge closer to defending Indian Open title | Golf News

4 min readGurugramMar 28, 2026 07:28 PM IST Earlier this week, responding to a list of questions from golf.com, Gary Player, who designed the course at the DLF Golf and Country Club that is hosting the ongoing Hero Indian Open, called his layout a ‘meaningful challenge.’ “The experience is intentionally thought-provoking… Every hole offers something unique, continually engaging the player’s attention from the first tee to the final green,” he wrote. On Saturday, defending champion Eugenio Chacarra left the course with one hand on the trophy. Carding a two-under 70 on another measured day’s play, capitalising on his tendency throughout the week to minimise mistakes, left him with a four-stroke lead at the top of the leaderboard. Just about everybody else in the title reckoning was left disappointed, proving just how much Player was downplaying the devilishness of his design. With two lakes, narrow fairways and firm greens, the brutality of the conditions here is represented in the scorecards. 14 different players scored 80 or more at this par-72 on Thursday and Friday each. The …

Indian Open golf: Home players struggle in forgettable campaign; defending champion Eugenio Chacarra takes lead | Golf News

4 min readGurugramUpdated: Mar 27, 2026 08:02 PM IST As conditions changed rapidly throughout the day at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram on Friday – from a burst of rain to overcast to bright sunshine – the gloom that fell over the Indian contingent competing at the national Open never abated. Never before in eight previous editions of the Hero Indian Open have as few as only two home players made the cut. But that was the total number of the 30-member strong contingent that managed to do so by the end of a rain-delayed day’s play on Friday, with a handful set to finish their second round early on Saturday. Defending champion Eugenio Chacarra further strengthened his position to defend his title by emerging with the sole clubhouse lead after another solid day, carding a three-under 69 to leave him at a total score of eight under. With a sensational round of eight-under 64, inclusive of as many as nine birdies, South African Casey Jarvis surged up the leaderboard to take …

Arne Slot says Liverpool’s defeat to Brighton ‘hurts a lot’ as defending champions slump to 5th spot | Football News

3 min readMar 21, 2026 11:09 PM IST Liverpool manager Arne Slot was forced to admit that his team have not been “good enough” and said that the defending champions’ latest defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion “hurts a lot”. Danny Welbeck scored a brace for Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday while Milos Kerkez pulled a goal back for the Reds. The defeat meant that Liverpool have earned just a solo point from their last three league games. The club is now in fifth place in the Premier League, one point ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea ahead of its match at Everton later. “Of course now looking at the league table, this loss hurts a lot and it should hurt us a lot,” Slot said after the game. “It’s not good enough, no matter how many excuses I come up with.” The result will add more scrutiny on his position at the helm of the club. “The main problem is that we are in this position because we dropped a point at Wolves in …
