‘Same degree, same standards’: Liverpool V-C on new Bengaluru campus offering UK-equivalent courses | Education News

The University of Liverpool is set to open its first independent campus in India by July 2026, marking the entry of a second major UK university setting up a campus in the country. The new campus, in Bengaluru, will offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes identical in curriculum and quality to those taught at the Liverpool home campus. Speaking to indianexpress.com, Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Jones detailed the University of Liverpool’s vision for its India operations, emphasising its commitment to maintaining global academic standards while adapting to the “local context”. “It will be the same degree programmes that we’ll teach in Liverpool, so that standard will be very high,” he said. “We will be appointing a University of Liverpool provost who will oversee the campus and be responsible for academic quality.” Why India and why now? Story continues below this ad When asked why a globally ranked university would look eastward to India, Jones framed it as a natural evolution. “We attract about 8,000 international students to the University of Liverpool. A throwback to pre-360 degree life

A throwback to pre-360 degree life

The first beam of light from Suryakumar Yadav’s bat to the third-man fence flashed in the penultimate ball of Mumbai Indians innings. The 42nd ball he faced against Delhi Capitals, he crouched and dabbed a wide yorker past the wicket-keeper to the sprawling real estate between third man and fine-leg where T20 batting’s greatest field-space-time manipulator, in the post AB-era, finds a bulk of his runs. It took his most familiar boundary route to realise that he had taken the most unfamiliar path to travel this far. Then, the innings, an outlier in his album of improvised destructibility, captured his firm grounding in the pre-modern times, a throwback to the pre-360-degree life of Suryakumar. Before SKY, there existed Surya. He burst forth as a proper red-ball cricketer in Mumbai leagues in the late aughts, when playing straight and scoring big fetched the greatest rewards in the game, when T20 cricket had not yet transformed the geography of batting and initiated the era of disruptive shot innovation. He made his first-class debut in 2010, and eight …

Delhi Hardlook: To pursue or not to pursue? Delhi University’s undergraduates face a crucial decision on the new four-year degree programme | Delhi News

Sitting with his juniors, surrounded by the red-brick corridors of St Stephen’s College, Delhi University student Adithyan Ajith is clear about his plans for the future — he wants to pursue a fourth year at the varsity. “It’s not just about one more year,” he says. “It’s about opening the door to places like the London School of Economics.” The 20-year-old History (Honours) student from Kerala will be among the first batch of DU undergraduates who, come July, must choose whether to continue with the newly formalised fourth year under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 or exit with a standard three-year degree. Story continues below this ad For Adithyan, who comes from a middle-class family — his father is an engineer and his mother a homemaker — the decision is clear. “I want to build a solid application — dissertation, recommendations, everything. That fourth year gives me the kind of academic depth and research experience that top global universities expect.” DU officials agree. The four-year course under the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF 2022), which …

How Twins In Madhya Pradesh Earned Double With Fake Degree

Damoh, Madhya Pradesh: In what may turn out to the one of the most audacious education scams in Madhya Pradesh, twin sisters secured teaching jobs in separate government-run schools, using the same name and the same BA marksheet, which belonged to one of them.  For 18 years, both drew salaries, taught children and remained undetected.  Each sister earned more than Rs 80 lakh during their fraudulent tenure, amounting to a combined haul of Rs 1.6 crore.  The matter came to light only when both applied for a job transfer to the same school, triggering suspicion of the Education Department.  The department suspended one of the sisters-Rashmi, the wife of Deependra Soni. The other, Rashmi, wife of Vijay Soni, is on the run.  Ironically, both were teaching moral science while practicing document forgery. SK Nemam, District Education Officer of Damoh, said, “One used the original marksheet, the other submitted a forged copy. When both gave different documents for verification, the truth began to unravel.” 19 Fake Teachers In Damoh, Only 3 Dismissed  These are not isolated …
