Amid heightened security, MCD carries out anti-encroachment drive in Uttam Nagar | Delhi News

2 min readNew DelhiMar 15, 2026 01:52 AM IST As a part of an ongoing drive in the West Zone, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) removed encroachments before houses and shops in Uttam Nagar on Saturday, said officials. The anti-encroachment drive was carried out on Saturday afternoon in Blocks B and C, officials underlined, adding that unauthorised thadas (raised platform), stairs and temporary sheds in front of around 70 shops were removed during the operation, freeing nearly 380 metres (about 760 square metres) of public road that had been encroached. The teams of the civic body carried out the action in presence of officers of the Delhi Police amid tight security arrangements, deploying bulldozers to remove alleged illegal structures operating in violation of civic norms, said officials.  “The drive was undertaken to clear public spaces, restore the right of way, and ensure smooth movement for pedestrians and traffic with support of Delhi Police. The family of Vaqeel Hasan, the Uttarakhand tunnel rescue hero whose house was demolished by the DDA earlier this week, have claimed they had not received any notice prior to the exercise even as they rejected offers for an accommodation from different quarters, insisting they only want to stay in Khajuri Khas — a locality they have been residing in since over a decade. In November 2023, Hasan had led a team of “rat-hole” miners, which rescued 41 construction workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel. “We did not receive any document from the DDA. When we asked, they said why should they issue a notice for their own land,” said Shabana, Hasan’s wife. Notably, the entire Shri Ram Colony where Hasan lived figures in the list of 1,731 unauthorised colonies in the capital. “My house is unauthorised the way the entire colony is unauthorised.
