Delhi MCD By-Election Result 2025 LIVE Updates: BJP Wins Chandni Chowk And Shalimar Bagh, AAP Secures Dakshinpuri

Delhi MCD By Election Results 2025 Live Updates: The counting of votes for the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) by-elections is underway across 12 wards. Early trends show the BJP leading in six wards, including Shalimar Bagh, Dwarka, Greater Kailash, Mundka, Vinod Nagar, Ashok Vihar, and Dichaon Kalan. These results are being closely watched as a litmus test for Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, whose “Viksit Delhi” agenda faces its first major electoral challenge since the Assembly polls earlier this year. Why only 12 wards went to poll? Polling was held on 30 November across 580 booths, following 12 vacancies created when 11 councillors were elected to the Delhi Assembly and one to Parliament. Notably, the Shalimar Bagh-B ward became vacant as Gupta herself had been elected from there. Voter turnout varied across wards, with Chandni Mahal recording 55.93%, the highest, and Greater Kailash the lowest at 26.76%. The overall turnout was 38.51%, reflecting moderate public engagement. Stakes for major parties: In the 250-member MCD House, the BJP currently holds 116 seats, AAP 99, Indraprastha Vikas Party …

Congress-AAP’s Unity Strongly Needed, Should Have Fought Delhi Polls Together: Amartya Sen

New Delhi: Advocating a “strong need” for unity between the Congress and the Aam Admi Party (AAP), Nobel laureate Professor Amartya Sen said that the two parties should have fought the Delhi elections together with mutually agreed commitments. Speaking to PTI during an exclusive interview at his ancestral home here in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, Sen also said that if secularism in India were to survive, there would not only have to be unity but also agreement on things that had made India an excellent example of pluralism. “I don’t think the result of the Delhi elections should be exaggerated, but it certainly has its significance. And if the AAP had won there, that victory would have carried its own weight,” Sen told PTI. Delving deeper into the reasons behind AAP’s setback, the eminent economist said that one factor is the “lack of unity among those who did not want a Hindutva-oriented government in Delhi”. “If you look at the numbers in many seats, the margin of BJP’s advantage over the AAP was less, sometimes …

Delhi Debacle: Can Kejriwal Ever Recover From This Wipeout?

Delhi Debacle: Can Kejriwal Ever Recover From This Wipeout?

Many may be tempted to write the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) obituary today, but that may be both hasty and tragic. The AAP’s defeat in Delhi is basically a journey from Dreamland to Crashland. Much before the results were out, I had argued that this was the most opportune time for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to win in Delhi. The results of the Delhi assembly elections are shocking for both AAP and Arvind Kejriwal, but it’s they who must take the blame for the rout, and gracefully accept their mistakes.  Kejriwal had emerged on the national scene as a radical revolutionary who promised to change the politics of the country. Instead, it was politics that changed Kejriwal. Twelve years in power turned him into yet another politician who lost all his moral lustre and charisma. Nothing could be more tragic than the defeat of Kejriwal from his own seat, the New Delhi constituency. It’s a lesson for all politicians who think they are bigger than the party and the collective wisdom of the people.  …
