A car bearing forcibly broke through an iron gate of the Delhi legislative assembly complex at around 2 pm on Monday. The driver then proceeded towards the office of the Speaker, Vijender Gupta, and placed a flower bouquet near the porch, an official told HT. The car had an Uttar Pradesh registration number. (HT Archive) The Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday issued formal letters, holding former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, former speaker Ram Niwas Goel, and their former deputies, Manish Sisodia and Rakhi Birla, in contempt of House and the Privileges Committee for their non-appearance over notices issued in the Phansi Ghar row. In an official communique sent by the secretariat to the four, it said that the Privileges Committee has recommended that appropriate action be taken by the House. The secretariat said that the committee had examined records, correspondence and procedural provisions, before issuing notices repeatedly and giving them adequate opportunity to appear before the House. An official aware of the proceedings said, “The committee’s conclusions were reached after noting that there was no stay or direction from any court restraining the proceedings and the notices have been issued to the individuals concerned for appearance before the panel.” The issue refers to a “Phansi Ghar” (gallows chamber) publicly …

Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and senior members of the bureaucracy on Friday appeared before the Delhi Legislative Assembly in response to issues related to water and sewage across the Capital. Water Minister Atishi, who received a report on long-term solutions to the water and sewage problems in the city, informed the Assembly that officials concerned have already started working on the same. During a special session held on Friday to discuss water and sewage issues, the Chief Secretary presented an action report of the past week. Many complaints have been addressed already, with the remaining to be resolved soon, it stated. On March 9, a resolution on increasing water and sewage issues was presented before the Vidhan Sabha, directing the Chief Secretary to resolve them within a week. Another House sitting is scheduled for March 22, where the Chief Secretary will submit a report on the pending complaints so far. Source link
