(File photo) Residents of Delhi woke up to a hazy Tuesday morning as a dense layer of toxic smog blanketed the city, triggering breathing discomfort and sharply reducing visibility. Air quality in the national capital deteriorated to the “severe” category, a day after it was recorded as “very poor”. The city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 408 in the early morning hours, according to official data. Several parts of Delhi registered even worse air quality. Dwarka, for instance, recorded an AQI of 435 around 5.30 am, placing it in the ‘severe’ bracket. Cold and foggy conditions prevailed across Delhi-NCR, with the minimum temperature hovering near 11°C, compounding poor visibility and worsening the impact of pollution. Delhi, Mumbai Air Quality Index (AQI) Level Today, 3 December 2025: Parts of Delhi were enveloped in a thick layer of haze on Wednesday morning, with the air quality hovering between ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ categories over the past few days. Delhi recorded an average AQI of 376, at 7 am, according to the Air Quality Early Warning Systems (EWS). Nehru Nagar recorded the highest air quality index (AQI) in the ‘severe’ category at 436, followed by 431 in Chandni Chowk, 420 in R K Puram, and 415 in Rohini, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. With the air quality worsening each day and the Air Quality Index (AQI) breaching the 400-mark on Tuesday morning, the Delhi government implemented stage-III of its graded response action plan (GRAP). New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management on Monday revoked the Stage 2 curbs under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) following a dip in pollution levels due to favourable meteorological conditions. Delhi’s 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) stood at 186 at 4 pm, significantly below the 300-mark that triggers Stage 2 restrictions. According to the India Meteorological Department and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology predict, the Capital’s AQI will likely remain in the moderate to poor category. As part of the revocation of the Stage 2 curbs, there will be no ban on the use of coal and firewood in Delhi-NCR, including the use of tandoors at restaurants and hotels. Diesel generators sets are also allowed to be used. All construction and demolition sites and industrial units will also be permitted to resume operations. Besides, inter-state buses from NCR states are now permitted to enter Delhi. Measures such as mechanised sweeping of roads, use of anti-smog guns, and sprinkling water daily will be undertaken to tackle dust with focused attention on identified air pollution …

Meanwhile, snowfall continued in Himalayan states including Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.  Highest rainfall in 15 years in Delhi On Friday, Delhi-NCR recorded the highest rainfall in December in the last 15 years. The Meteorological Department said that the rain started at around 2.30 am on Thursday night and continued throughout the day. According to the data of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), 9.1 mm of rain was recorded in the city in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Friday. Notably, the stage 4 curbs under the GRAP ​include a ban on all construction activities, entry of non-essential polluting trucks into Delhi, and mandatory shifting of school classes, except for classes 10 and 12, to hybrid mode. Delhi air quality predicted to improve further  Delhi’s air pollution levels showed improvement on Tuesday, with the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 369 by 4 pm.  According to forecasts from the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, the air quality is expected to improve further due to favourable meteorological conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department, a light drizzle is likely during the day and the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 19 degrees Celsius. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 398 in the ‘very poor’ category. It was 406 on Monday, the Central Pollution Control Board said. An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good,’ 51-100 ‘satisfactory,’ 101-200 ‘moderate,’ 201-300 ‘poor,’ 301-400 ‘very poor,’ and 401-500 ‘severe.’ The humidity levels stood at 100 per cent at 8.30 am, the IMD said.
