‘CCTV footage secured, witnesses called’: Railways high-level committee begins probe into stampede at New Delhi Railway Station | Delhi News

A day after the stampede that claimed at least 18 lives and left several others injured, a two-member committee formed by the Railways ministry Sunday inspected the incident site at the New Delhi Railway Station and secured the CCTV footage  for investigation. The inspection was carried out on platform 14 of the railway station which is where the Prayagraj Express was stationed leading to a surge of passengers. People waiting to board the delayed Swatantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani were also present on this platform as well as on platforms 12 and 13. “All the CCTV footage of the New Delhi Railway station has been secured. We have inspected the site and collected relevant evidence. The investigation has begun today,” said Narsingh Deo, Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) of the Northern Railway. New Delhi: A stampede occurred at New Delhi Railway Station, resulting in the loss of 15 lives on Saturday. The incident happened around 10 pm when thousands of devotees were heading to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh 2025 festival, causing severe overcrowding at the station. An eyewitness, an Indian Air Force (IAF) sergeant on Sunday recounted that despite announcements and efforts to convince people to avoid gathering in large numbers, the crowd remained unmanageable. New Delhi Railway Station Stampede News: As many as 18 people were killed after a stampede-like situation occurred at the New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday evening. In a time where Indian Railways are experiencing a heavy rush of passengers heading to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh, hundreds of passengers suddenly gathered on platforms 13 and 14 in a span of 15-20 minutes, triggering a stampede which left several injured. New Delhi: At least 15 people, including 10 women and three children, died after a sudden rush of passengers caused by two trains for the Maha Kumbh being delayed led to an overcrowding situation at the New Delhi railway station on Saturday night, officials said.  The deaths were confirmed by the chief casualty medical officer of the LNJP hospital in Delhi. Officials said 10 women, three children and two men died in the incident. The Railways has ordered an inquiry and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident. The chaotic situation developed around 8 pm on platform numbers 14 and 15 of the station as passengers were waiting to board trains to Prayagraj.   Officials said additional security forces have been deployed to control the situation at the railway station and four fire engines were also rushed to the spot. Now 12, Saumya Escarré García-Solera is living a happy life with her adoptive parents in Spain, even harbouring a dream to play hockey. Why not? For, it was a Spanish hockey legend who scripted this turnaround in the young Indian child’s life. Juan Escarré, 54, who competed for Spain in three Summer Olympics, besides the Champions Trophy as well as the European Nations Cup, calls himself a South Asian hockey tragic. It was in 1996 that he first visited India as a player and “it felt like a pilgrimage”. Then in 2005, when he returned with his wife, he “fell in love with the country”.
