Delhi-NCR is expected to witness a week of rainfall and thunderstorm activity, bringing continued relief from intense summer heat, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather department has forecast that maximum temperatures across the national capital will remain below the 40 degrees Celsius mark at least until June 5, aided by cloudy conditions and intermittent rain. Temperatures Stay Below Seasonal Average Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 37.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which was 2.3 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average. The relatively mild weather conditions experienced over the past several days have provided respite to residents from the prolonged summer heat. Data released by the IMD showed that temperatures remained below normal across most monitoring stations in the city. Ayanagar recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1 degrees Celsius, while Safdarjung, the city`s primary weather station, registered a high of 37.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.8 degrees Celsius. The Capital’s temperatures continued their steady climb on Saturday, as Delhi recorded a sunny day with a maximum temperature of 34.7 degrees Celsius (°C), ending the brief respite from a two-day rain spell. The all-time record for August rainfall in Delhi stands at 583.3 mm in 1961: IMD (Representational) New Delhi: Delhi in August received 378.5 mm of rainfall — the city’s highest in 12 years, according to the India Meteorological Department. The Safdarjung Observatory registered 378.5 mm of rainfall till Thursday, surpassing the previous high of 321.4 mm recorded in August 2013, the IMD said. The highest precipitation in last 15 years was recorded in 2010 when the city received 455.1 mm of rainfall, IMD data shows. The second-highest was in 2012, with 378.8 mm, followed by 321.4 mm in 2013. This third-highest mark was surpassed on August 29, 2023. The all-time record for August rainfall in Delhi stands at 583.3 mm in 1961, according to the IMD data. After the early morning shower on Thursday, the Safdarjung Observatory, the city’s primary weather station, recorded 77 mm of rainfall bringing the total rainfall for the monsoon season to 825.5 mm.
