Moderate rain along with moderate thunderstorms are expected in North Delhi, North West Delhi, Central Delhi, East Delhi, North East Delhi and Shahadara. However, a significant shift in weather is expected for the larger part of north India. While the region is currently under a heatwave warning for isolated pockets, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayan region starting June 11. The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Delhi early on Monday, warning of severe thunderstorms and hailstorms. Some parts of the national capital were placed under an orange alert, as residents were advised to be prepared for potentially disruptive weather conditions. Cloudy skies are expected through the day, with thunderstorms and rain likely in the afternoon and evening. Although rain brought relief from heat in Delhi on Friday, the national capital saw a slight increase in the minimum temperature on Saturday. The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 20.7 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degree above the normal and a 1.5 degree increase from a day before. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius. The air quality index was recorded at 177 (moderate) at 9 am on Saturday, as compared to 266 (poor) recorded on Friday, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) for Delhi has forecast the AQI to remain in the moderate category for the next few days, PTI reported. Delhi received light showers on Monday morning(HT Photo) Parts of Delhi received light showers early in the morning, with the minimum temperature dropping to 25.2 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees below the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD predicted that the maximum temperature could rise to around 35 degrees Celsius, still low for the time of the season. The Orange Alert, a part of the IMD’s weather warning system, means that residents should be alert and ready for potentially disruptive weather. At 8.30 am, humidity levels were high at 80 per cent, adding to the damp conditions. Delhi’s air quality remained in the “satisfactory” category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 95 recorded in the morning. New Delhi: TMC leader Sagarika Ghose, who was on the turbulence-hit Indigo flight bound for Srinagar Wednesday, termed it a “near-death experience.”  A five-member delegation of Trinamool Congress comprising Derek O’Brien, Nadimul Haque, Sagarika Ghose, Manas Bhunia, and Mamata Thakur, was on the Srinagar-bound flight that experienced turbulence due to inclement weather. The jolts prompted the pilot to report an “emergency” to air traffic control at Srinagar. “It was a near-death experience. I thought my life was over. People were screaming, praying and panicking,” Ms Ghose said. “Hats off to the pilot who brought us through that.
