Gujarat introduces new Volvo bus service on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) on Monday announced revisions to the operating routes of several premium AC bus services, with a focus on improving travel efficiency and reducing passenger costs. The changes have been introduced at the Deputy Chief Minister`s instructions. As part of the new arrangement, all premium AC buses operating between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar will now run via the newly constructed Ahmedabad-Dholera Express Highway. According to the corporation, this route adjustment is expected to reduce travel time and lower operational costs, benefits that have been partially passed on to passengers through reduced fares. Under the revised schedule, a total of 24 daily trips, operating at hourly intervals between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m., will now use the expressway from both Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar. Services on the Gandhinagar-Diu and Gandhinagar-Mahuva routes have also been brought under the same corridor. MP highway to be upgraded to boost Ujjain and Delhi–Mumbai E-way connectivity

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved the development of a four-lane corridor on the Badnawar–Petlawad–Thandla–Timarwani section of National Highway (NH)-752D, with a total length of 80.45 kilometres and an estimated capital cost of Rs 3,839.42 crore, news agency ANI reported. The approved corridor will connect Ujjain to the Timrawani interchange on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway (DME). The primary objective of the proposed four-lane project corridor is to improve travel efficiency and it is expected to reduce travel time by approximately one hour, ANI reported. According to a press release by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, “The Ujjain-Badnawar section of 70.40 km length has already been upgraded from 2-lane to 4-lane. The instant Badnawar-Timrawani stretch is an existing intermediate lane (5.5m) with poor geometry (Speed 20-50 kmph).” Upgrading this section will complete direct four-lane connectivity from Ujjain to the Timrawani interchange on DME, enabling speeds of 80-100 kilometre per hour, ANI reported. Maheshwari was travelling from Jaipur to Mathura when the incident happened. Police said his driver, who was behind the wheel, lost control, broke through roadside barricades, and crashed into the median before hitting a culvert wall. The collision was so severe that the luxury car was completely mangled. The 62-year-old businessman and his driver were rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Maheshwari dead, while his driver escaped unhurt. His body has been sent to Jaipur for post-mortem. Stating that “citizenry cannot be deprived of a well-constructed highway to ensure smooth and free movement,” the Delhi High Court has permitted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to proceed with its intent to terminate the contract of a Pune contractor working on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The Indian Express, on December 19, 2025, had reported on how the 1,386-km Expressway project, being built at a cost of Rs 1.04 lakh crore, has been left in limbo owing to non-completion of an 87-km stretch in Gujarat by the contractor, Roadways Solutions India Infra Limited (RSIIL). RSIIL was first awarded all these three stretches in 2021. Two of these were scrapped in March 2023 due to delays, only to be re-awarded to the same company in November 2023 after it bid the lowest. Air India on Monday said a Mumbai-bound flight returned to Delhi shortly after take-off due to a technical issue.  The aircraft landed safely at Delhi and the passengers and crew have disembarked, the airline said in a statement. “The crew operating flight AI887 from Delhi to Mumbai on 22 December decided to return to Delhi shortly after take-off due to a technical issue as per standard operating procedure. The aircraft landed safely at Delhi and the passengers and crew have disembarked. Air India sincerely regrets inconvenience caused due to this unforeseen situation,” an airline spokesperson said in a statement.
