The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a victim, a make-up artist. According to the victim, who was jobless for the past two years, she came to Suruchi Sangha at New Alipore on August 20, 2025, to meet Swarup Biswas, who was heading a body of make-up artists, and his associates seeking a job. But Biswas demanded money in return. According to the complaint, the victim approached  Biswas again on April 4 this year, and this time, they told her that if she wanted a job, she had to sexually compromise with them. “When she refused their proposal, Biswas and his associates allegedly tried to kill her at her residence on April 10,” said a police officer. Workers of the Shiv Sena (UBT) on Monday staged a “chakka jam” (road blockade) agitation on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra`s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to protest the low onion procurement rates. The agitation, which took place around 10 am at the Jambargaon interchange in Vaijapur tehsil, saw protesters burning tyres on the expressway, blocking the traffic, an official said. Speaking to reporters, Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve, who led the protest, said, “The authorities did not grant permission for our agitation. But we are here to support onion farmers. We want the government to procure the crop at a good rate, and that is our only demand from the agitation.” He claimed that onions were being procured at 25 to 50 paisa per kg, which is unfair to farmers. “Onion cultivators are committing suicide. While the Central government has announced a procurement rate of Rs 12.35 per kg, no one is purchasing the produce at this rate,” Danve alleged. An additional collector in Akola district of Maharashtra has been booked for allegedly extorting money from a stone crusher owner and threatening other businessmen, a police official said on Wednesday, reported the PTI. The additional collector, Pramod Rahul Gaikwad, has denied all allegations. FIR registered An FIR was registered against Gaikwad at the MIDC police station on Monday. The case has been filed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act, as per the PTI. The officials said that an investigation was underway. A 54-year-old assistant sub-inspector has been suspended after he allegedly asked a woman detainee to send her daughter to him for sexual favours in Maharashtra’s Akola district, police said on Wednesday. The woman had been apprehended in connection with a financial fraud case involving Rs 80 lakh and was being held at the Civil Lines Police Station lockup. On Tuesday, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajesh Jadhav, who was on duty, allegedly misused his position to lure the woman with offers of money and demanded that she send her daughter to him for sexual favours, police inspector Anil Jumle said. The woman then approached senior police officials with a complaint. A video later surfaced on social media showing senior officers confronting and reprimanding the ASI. District Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak suspended the ASI with immediate effect on Tuesday, the official said. Maharashtra: Beed tehsildar accused of demanding Rs 20,000 bribe suspended

A tehsildar in the Beed district of Maharashtra has been suspended after he was arrested last month by ACB for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000, news agency PTI reported. The tehsildar demanded the amount in exchange for issuing a solvency certificate, an officer said on Tuesday. The order to suspend Vyankatesh Munde, who served as the tehsildar of Parli Vaijnath, was issued by Divisional Commissioner Jitendra Papalkar following his arrest on February 20. Munde had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 for issuing a solvency certificate of Rs 7 lakh. ACB found that the accused reportedly indicated the demand by writing the amount on a slip of paper. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs 20,000. An officer said, “The Divisional Commissioner has suspended Munde, as he was absent from his office for more than 48 hours (after he was arrested).
