Vetrimaaran takes indirect dig at Dhurandhar 2, says ‘propaganda films monetise hate’: ‘We know how many people died during demonetisation’ | Bollywood News

3 min readNew DelhiUpdated: Mar 28, 2026 04:53 PM IST Tamil filmmaker Vetrimaaran appeared to take an indirect dig at the “propaganda” surrounding Dhurandhar 2 during a recent event. The director was attending the trailer launch of Neelira, helmed by Someetharan and co-produced by Rana Daggubati. The film is a work of fiction based on the memories of a war child, set against the backdrop of 1988 Northern Sri Lanka. Speaking about the film, Vetrimaaran emphasised the importance of presenting truth to future generations, rather than manipulating history and collective memory to fuel hate-driven narratives. Vetrimaaran’s indirect dig at Dhurandhar 2 In a strongly worded speech, he said without naming Dhurandhar 2, “This film (Neelira) doesn’t talk about hate or advocate violence. It is not a propaganda film. It is not made to promote an ideology with crores of rupees. It does not aim to monetise hatred or violence to earn Rs 100 crore. On that basis, this is a film that does not caricature any race, community, or religious sect. It presents events without …

Dhruv Rathee reviews Dhurandhar 2 In his new video titled “Dhurandhar 2 Exposed – What They Don’t Show You,” Dhruv said the film not only insults the nation but also belittles its citizens. Dhruv said that the film has a disclaimer that states it is a ‘fictional work that is inspired by real events,’ and called it a legal cheat code. He said, “Aditya Dhar has created a cinematic universe from WhatsApp forwards. At the beginning, instead of saying ‘inspired by real events’, it should have kept ‘inspired by WhatsApp forwards’. That would have been a better fit.” Dhruv then notes the depiction of demonetisation in Dhurandhar 2 and says the …

Vishal Dadlani indirectly takes a dig at Dhurandhar 2`s demonetisation plot

Aditya Dhar’s directorial Dhurandhar: The Revenge was released in theatres on March 19. Starring Ranveer Singh in the lead, the film has been breaking box-office records with each passing day. However, it has also faced criticism for its storyline, particularly portions that appear to justify the Modi government’s 2016 demonetisation move, when Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were withdrawn overnight. Vishal Dadlani takes a dig at Dhurandhar 2 Now, singer Vishal Dadlani has taken an indirect dig at the film for its depiction of the policy decision. In the movie, the move is renamed “Operation Green Leaf” and is portrayed as a strategic step to curb terror funding networks. Although Vishal did not directly name the film, he hinted at it by using Satinder Sartaaj’s track Jaiye Sajna, which features in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, making the reference evident. Vishal shared an Instagram Story featuring screenshots of several reports on the real-life impact of demonetisation on citizens and the country’s economy. One of the statements he posted read, “The high percentage of cash return led …

Vishal Dadlani seemingly takes a dig at Dhurandhar 2 over demonetisation angle: ‘Watch film for fun but…’

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2, fronted by Ranveer Singh, has finally stormed into theatres, opening to an impressive box office response. While the spy thriller has struck a chord with many, it hasn’t been immune to criticism. Now, musician-singer Vishal Dadlani has seemingly taken a subtle swipe at the film over its demonetisation angle. Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2 was released on March 19. Vishal Dadlani takes a dig at Dhurandhar 2 On Saturday, Vishal took to Instagram to post two stories seemingly taking a dig at the film. The second half of Aditya’s directorial weaves in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation announcement from November 8, 2016. In the film, the move is reimagined as ‘Operation Green Leaf’, positioned as a strike to choke terror funding networks allegedly linked to Pakistan. In one Story, Vishal posted a statement which stated, “The high percentage of cash return led to widespread analysis that the move failed to permanently eliminate a large portion of ‘black money’ from the economy, as intended.” Sharing the story, Vishal wrote, “In light of the …

How Dhurandhar 2 uses real-life events—from demonetisation to encounters—to build Hamza’s world | Bollywood News

How Dhurandhar 2 uses real-life events—from demonetisation to encounters—to build Hamza’s world | Bollywood News

Amid the ongoing debate around the importance of strong writing in cinema, Aditya Dhar crafts a compelling narrative in Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge by blending real-life events with fiction, all anchored around the character of Hamza. He uses recent Indian events as the backbone of his storytelling, blurring the lines between fact and fiction. Right at the outset, the filmmaker sets the tone with a detailed disclaimer: “The film is not a documentary and should not be construed as an accurate depiction of historical facts or events. Certain characters, institutions, dialogues, and events have been fictionalised and dramatised for cinematic purposes. Any resemblance or similarity to actual persons, organisations, events, or locations is purely coincidental.” Yet, beneath this formal distancing lies a clever narrative device. Dhar, who has often maintained that his films are merely “inspired” by real events, draws heavily from contemporary history—reimagining incidents like the Atiq Ahmed encounter, the 2016  demonetisation, and the reported deaths of terrorists such as Azam Cheema, Sajid Mir, Abdul Bhuttovi, Altaf and Javed Khanani. What he fictionalises, however, …

Anusha Rizvi to make satire on demonetisation in upcoming comedy

In 2010, Peepli Live gave Bollywood not only a gifted debutant writer-director in Anusha Rizvi, but also a sharp satire that the industry is often starved of. Naturally then, the industry folk as well as the audience were eager to see what the director would do next. It has been a long wait of 15 years, but Rizvi is now set to take her place behind the camera again. mid-day has learnt that she is crafting a black comedy that explores the impact of the demonetisation that was effected in India in November 2016. Anusha Rizvi A source close to the project reveals, “Anusha has written a story reflecting the absurdity and chaos that followed the policy shift. We’ve heard the yet-untitled film, backed by Viacom18 Studios, is a female-centric story. “The story …

Justice Nagarathna On Demonetisation Judgment

Justice Nagarathna spoke on her dissent on the demonetisation case. In her keynote address at the inaugural session of the fifth edition of Courts and the Constitution Conference, held at the NALSAR University of Law here on Saturday, Justice Nagarathna spoke about the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly case as another instance of gubernatorial overreach, where the governor lacked sufficient material to declare the floor test. “This is not a healthy trend under the Constitution to bring the actions or omissions of the Governor of a state for consideration before constitutional courts,” she said. “I think I must appeal that the office of a governor, though it is called a gubernatorial post, the governor’s post is a serious constitutional post, the governors must discharge their duties under the constitution in accordance with the Constitution so that this kind of litigation before the law courts is reduced,” Justice Nagarathna …

Justice BV Nagarathna who gave a dissenting opinion in the Supreme Court’s verdict on demonetisation on Saturday said she had done that because the common man’s predicament due to demonetisation stirred her. Justice BV Nagarathna was the only dissenting judge in the Supreme Court’s demonetisation verdict. “98% of the currency came back to the RBI. So where were we heading towards black money eradication?
