Shekhar Kapur’s 1994 film Bandit Queen not only left a lasting impact on Indian cinema but also introduced a generation of actors who would go on to shape the industry. Among them were Manoj Bajpayee and Saurabh Shukla, who, like many others, moved to Mumbai with dreams in their eyes. Recently, Saurabh Shukla revisited those early days in Mumbai. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the actor recalled how he shared a rented apartment with Manoj Bajpayee and a rotating group of aspiring actors from Delhi. “We were living together, Manoj and I. We had rented a room and even paid the rent for an entire year in advance. The two of us were the main partners, and then whoever came from Delhi would just join us,” Saurabh said. He added that filmmaker Vijay Krishna Acharya, fondly called Victor, also moved in with them. “Victor is a very close friend. He was in Bombay at the time, so I told him, ‘Why are you living alone? Come stay with us.’ And he joined us too.” …
