New Delhi, The government on Thursday notified the Central Armed Police Forces Act, 2026, after President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the “umbrella law” that will regulate recruitment, deputation, promotion and other conditions of service for the officers of the CFs. Govt notifies CAPF (General Administration) Act after president’s assent All CFs the Central Reserve Police Force , the Central Industrial Security Force , the Border Security Force , the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the Sashastra Seema Bal are governed by their respective Acts. The rules under these Acts govern the recruitment and conditions of service for ‘Group-A’ general duty officers and other officers and members of the CFs. The new Act provides that 50 per cent of the posts will be filled through deputation from the Indian Police Service in the rank of an inspector general and a minimum of 67 per cent of the posts through deputation in the rank of an additional director general. Last Updated:January 31, 2026, 09:14 IST A minimum of two years of central deputation at the level of SP/DIG or equivalent will be mandatory for empanelment to IG-level posts at the Centre The revised condition will apply prospectively to officers of the 2011 batch onwards, who are currently serving at DIG or equivalent levels in their cadres and are expected to be considered for IG empanelment in the coming years. The Union government has modified the guidelines for empanelment of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers for Inspector General (IG) and equivalent posts at the Centre, introducing a new eligibility condition applicable to IPS officers of the 2011 batch onwards. As per an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, a minimum of two years of central deputation at the level of SP/DIG or equivalent will be mandatory for empanelment to IG-level posts at the Centre. Earlier, the empanelment guidelines did not prescribe such central experience as a compulsory requirement. The Supreme Court on Friday directed cadre review, which was due in 2021, in all the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including ITBP, BSF, CRPF, CISF and SSB, to be carried out within six months.
