On January 17, 2019, a special CBI court in Panchkula sentenced Ram Rahim and three others to life imprisonment and fined them Rs 50,000. The e-mails, however, gave ammunition to the BJP to target the ruling Aam Aadmi Party dispensation saying such bomb threats by anti-national elements expose the “failure” of the state government and the police force. The e-mails prompted a security sweep at the schools, which were closed due to a public holiday on account of the Guru Ravidas Jayanti, a senior police officer said, adding that nothing suspicious was found. A special court in Faridkot has asked Dera Baba Harka Dass’ district chief, Sant Gagan Dass, to approach the Punjab government for prosecution sanction against an Inspector General-rank IPS officer who is facing an FIR under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Dera Sacha Sauda chief and rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was released from jail in Haryana`s Rohtak on Tuesday after being granted a 30-day parole, a development which came ahead of the February 5 Delhi assembly elections, reported news agency PTI. The 57-year-old Singh headed to his Sirsa-headquartered Dera in Haryana after walking out of the Sunaria jail in Rohtak, sources told PTI. It is for the first time that Singh has visited the Dera in Sirsa ever since he was sentenced to jail in 2017 in the rape case. Earlier, he used to stay at the Dera ashram in Uttar Pradesh`s Baghpat during his parole. One of the Dera chief`s counsel said he has been granted 30-day parole.
