The civic body aims to begin work by March 28. Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar said bids were received for all three packages of the Rs 29.5 crore project, which targets removing 1.65 lakh metric tonnes of silt. “For each of the packages, we have received two bids. We are scrutinising them and aim to award the contracts by Friday,” he said. “We plan to start work by Saturday, with full-scale desilting across the city, including the Mithi, from April 4,” Bangar added. The tender, floated on February 28, had earlier drawn no responses till its March 11 deadline, and again after an extension to March 17, prompting a third extension till March 24. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday reviewed the progress of river protection works and desilting being carried out under irrigation projects at the state secretariat, and directed officials to complete pending tasks within stipulated timelines in view of flood risks during the monsoon season. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chairs a review meeting on river protection and desilting works at the state secretariat on Friday. Officials briefed him on check dams, recharge shafts and water-source conservation measures underway in multiple districts. During the review, officials informed the Chief Minister that the Minor Irrigation Department is implementing water conservation, augmentation and recharge initiatives that include construction of check dams, recharge shafts and ponds. According to the department’s update shared in the meeting, 708 check dams have been constructed across the state. The department also reported that a total of 419 recharge shafts have been installed in Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Haridwar districts. The actor reached the EOW office at the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s office complex in south Mumbai earlier in the day, an official said. An official told PTI that Morea is being questioned for his alleged links to two middlemen arrested in the ₹65 crore desilting scam. Earlier this month, the police registered a case against 13 persons, including contractors and civic officials, for an alleged ₹65 crore scam related to the desilting of the Mithi River, which flows through the city. Mumbai police’s EOW arrests 2 middlemen in multi-crore Mithi River desilting scam | Mumbai News

The Mumbai police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Wednesday arrested two people allegedly involved in the multi-crore Mithi River desilting scam. On Tuesday, the agency booked 13 people, including three Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials. Sangramsinh Nishandar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, EOW, identified the arrested accused as Ketan Kadam and Jay Joshi, and said both will be produced before a court. Joshi is the owner of Virgo Specialties Pvt Ltd, and Ketan Kadam is of Voder India LLP. After months of inquiries, EOW SIT officials came across various financial irregularities pertaining to Mithi river desilting works contracts between 2021-22 and 2022-23. Meyyanathan. The project involves clearing 22 km of the Porai canal ahead of the southwest monsoon to improve irrigation and flood management. The event was attended by District Collector H.S. Srikanth, Poompuhar MLA Nivedha M. Murugan, Sirkazhi MLA M. Panneerselvam, and Mayiladuthurai MLA S. Rajakumar. The Porai canal originates from the Puthumanniyar at Kumarakudi and irrigates 4,008 acres across six villages. It serves as a key drainage channel for five others before discharging into the Vellapallam Uppanaru. The canal is choked with silt and dense weed growth, hampering water flow, and posing risks to both irrigation and drainage.
