Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia set to elected as BCCI secretary and treasurer unopposed – India TV

Image Source : RCB BCCI logo. Devajit Saika and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia are set to be elected unopposed as the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary and treasurer, respectively. Their names are the only two featuring in the final list of contesting candidates which was shared on Tuesday. The BCCI secretary post was left vacant after Jay Shah took over as the ICC chairman on December 1. Saika had been appointed as the interim secretary. Meanwhile, the treasurer post was up for grabs after Ashish Shelar took oath as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. The deadline to file the nominations ended last week and the withdrawal of nominations ended on Tuesday at 2 PM. The final list of nominations was prepared by the BCCI electoral officer and former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Achal Kumar Joti, on Tuesday. Devajit Saikia Set To Take Over As BCCI Secretary, Prabhtej Bhatia Likely To Become Treasurer

Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh’s Bhatia has applied for the treasurer’s position after the post was left vacant by the exit of Ashish Shelar, who recently took oath as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government.= On the other hand, Saikia has been working as the interim secretary of the Indian cricket board since Jay Shah took over as the ICC chairman on December 1. Saikia was nominated as the interim secretary by the BCCI president Roger Bonny after Shah had left the role. After Jay Shah recently took over as ICC Chairman on December 01, the BCCI named Devajit Saikia as the board’s acting secretary. Saikia who hails from Assam is a former first-class cricketer and is currently the BCCI joint secretary. Devajit Saikia appointed Acting Secretary of BCCI after Jay Shah’s departure – India TV

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint-secretary, Devajit Saika, has been appointed as the Acting Secretary of the Indian Board following Jay Shah’s departure. According to a report in PTI, Board President Roger Binny used his constitutional powers to appoint Saikia as acting secretary for an interim period till a permanent secretary is appointed under the rules and regulations of the BCCI. Binny cited clause 7(1) (d) of the BCCI constitution to hand secretarial powers to Saika, who is a former first-class cricketer and also an Advocate General of the state. “The president shall in the event of vacancy or indisposition shall delegate the functions to another office bearer until the vacancy is duly filled up or indisposition ceases. “Accordingly, I delegate the functions of secretary to you till the post is filled up by processes laid down as per BCCI rules and regulations. Saikia, who hails from Assam, is a former first-class cricketer. He is currently the BCCI joint secretary.
