More than 50 devotees had a narrow escape on Sunday as they headed to Gurudwara Shri Reetha Sahib during the ongoing ‘Jod Mela’ in Uttarakhand; however, the vigilant disaster teams averted the tragedy by swiftly mounting a timely operation to rescue all of them.  The incident occurred at the historic Shri Reetha Sahib Gurudwara in Champawat district, where Sikh devotees had arrived in droves to participate in the three-day annual fair, held to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev’s historic visit. Eight people have died while eight others were injured in the Nalanda stampede on Tuesday, police confirmed. A stampede broke out during prayers at Mata Sheetla Temple in Nalanda. In a statement, the police said that earlier in the day, the situation at the Maa Sheetla Temple, located within the jurisdiction of the Deepnagar Police Station, “suddenly spiralled out of control due to severe overcrowding during worship rituals.” “According to information received thus far, this unfortunate incident has resulted in the deaths of eight devotees and injuries to eight others,” the police said. Upon learning about the incident, police officials, together with residents, hurried to the location and initiated relief and rescue efforts. Visuals from the scene depicted numerous devotees assembled within the temple grounds. The Nalanda District Police Administration reached the scene immediately to commence relief and rescue operations, officials said. The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals for advanced medical care, where they are currently receiving appropriate treatment. Chaitra Navratri has drawn a huge rush of pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir`s Reasi district, with over 2.69 lakh devotees offering prayers at the cave shrine during the ongoing festival. “The yatra is going on smoothly. There is a huge rush. As many as 2,69,716 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the temple till March 25,” a senior official of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board told PTI. Mussoorie: The portals of Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district will be opened for devotees on April 22 at 8 am, marking the beginning of this year’s Char Dham Yatra season, officials of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) announced on Sunday. Located at a height of nearly 3,500 metres above sea level, Kedarnath Temple is situated near the Mandakini River in Rudraprayag district (ANI) The date was declared at the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, following Maha Shivratri celebration. BKTC chairman Hemant Dwivedi extended greetings to devotees in India and abroad and said preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage season would now be expedited. “The portals of Shri Badrinath Dham will open on April 23, and with the date for Shri Kedarnath Dham now fixed at April 22, BKTC will accelerate its Yatra preparations,” he said.
