Aviation watchdog DGCA has asked Air India to take corrective measures after the airline deployed a wrong aircraft for operating a flight to Vancouver last week, a senior official said on Thursday. A Vancouver-bound Air India Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft, after being airborne for over seven hours, returned to Delhi on March 19 after it was found that the plane was not approved for operating the flight. The approval is only for Boeing 777-300 ER to operate that flight. India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has directed airlines to avoid operating in multiple West Asia airspaces amid escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, citing heightened risks to civil aviation, reported news agency IANS. The advisory, issued as part of enhanced safety protocols, will remain in force until March 28 unless reviewed earlier. Airlines told to avoid 9 high-risk airspaces The DGCA has instructed carriers to refrain from flying through the airspace of Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, reported IANS. The regulator said the ongoing conflict and recent military strikes have created a volatile and high-risk environment for commercial flight operations. Conditional operations over Oman and Saudi Arabia Flights over Oman and Saudi Arabia may be permitted, but only under strict conditions. Airlines must allocate 60 per cent of seats free of cost: DGCA

India`s civil aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has mandated airlines to allocate a minimum 60 per cent of seats on any flight free of charge to ensure fair access to the flyers. At present, airlines invariably charge extra to allocate seats of one`s choice. The Civil Aviation Ministry, through the DGCA, also mandated passengers travelling on the same PNR to be seated together, preferably in adjacent seats Carriage of sports equipment and musical instruments to be facilitated in a transparent and passenger-friendly manner, subject to applicable safety and operational regulations. The ministry also suggested that airlines bring out clear, transparent policies for the carriage of pets. The ministry also asked airlines to strictly adhere to the passenger rights framework, particularly in cases of delays, cancellations and denied boarding. The airlines are asked to prominently display passenger rights across airline websites, mobile applications, booking platforms, and airport counters, besides clear communication of passenger entitlements in regional languages to ensure wider accessibility and awareness. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have revised air ticket refund rules to make them more passenger-friendly and have announced that the passengers can now cancel or amend their air tickets within 48 hours of booking without paying additional charges, subject to certain conditions, reported the PTI. Under the amended Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) for the refund of airline tickets, airlines must offer a 48-hour ‘look-in option’ from the time of booking. During this period, passengers may cancel or modify their tickets without incurring extra charges, except for any fare difference applicable to the revised flight. However, this facility will not apply to flights departing within seven days of booking for domestic travel and 15 days for international travel, when tickets are booked directly through an airline’s website. No extra charges for name corrections The regulator said airlines must not levy additional charges for correcting the name of the same passenger if the mistake is reported within 24 hours of booking, provided the ticket was booked directly through the airline’s website, according to the …
