Anand has said the State Police department, once regarded as one of the country’s leading forces in adopting technology, has fallen behind in certain areas due to inadequate utilisation of available technological systems and shortcomings in field-level implementation. Tamil Nadu DGP Sandeep Rai Rathore. The appointment of a regular Director General of Police and Head of the Police Force in the Tamil Nadu police is set to be delayed further. The State government has written to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) requesting postponement of the Empanelment Committee Meeting  (ECM) which was scheduled in Delhi on May 11, 2026. In a communication sent to the UPSC, the State said the presence of the Chief Secretary and the Home Secretary in the State was absolutely essential in the next few days.  Apparently referring to the ongoing political developments and stalemate in the formation of a new government, a top official requested the UPSC to postpone the meeting to some other date, preferably in the last week of May.  The present DGP/HoPF Sandeep Rai Rathore, who was appointed by the Election Commission of India replacing G. The next DGP/HoPF, expected to be appointed by the newly elected government in the second week of this month, would have a minimum tenure of two years irrespective of the date of superannuation as per the Supreme Court guidelines in the Prakash Singh case. The reshuffle began late Sunday night as the EC sent a letter to Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, informing her that she and state Home Secretary Jagdish Prasad Meena have been substituted with Dushyant Nariala and Sanghamitra Ghosh, respectively. In a letter sent to the chief secretary, the EC said “the officers transferred out” — Nandini Chakraborty and Jagdish Prasad Meena – “shall not be posted in any election-related position” till the polls are over. “The directions of the Election Commission should be implemented with immediate effect, and a compliance report in respect of joining of Dushyant Nariala and Sanghamitra Ghosh be sent by 3 pm on March 16 (Monday),” the letter read.
