The flight from Armenia landed in Chennai as most of the fishermen were from Tamil Nadu. Over 1,000 Indian fishermen — mostly from Tamil Nadu — are estimated to be presently employed in Iran. This was the first group to be transported from the southern part of Iran to the northern region, bordering Armenia, from where their crossing over to Armenia was facilitated by the Indian Missions in Tehran and Yerevan. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday chaired the second meeting of the Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM), which took stock of a range of issues, including LPG supplies, aviation turbine fuel price hike, and customs duty exemption on 40 critical petrochemical products till June this year. The IGL is the largest authorised gas distributor in the Capital that provides PNG pipeline and CNG. “On average, IGL receives about 700 to 800 applications for new PNG connections, but over the past two weeks, there has been a significant surge amid the panic over the shortage of LPG supply. Sectors such as steel, fertilisers, cement and power transmission depend heavily on imports of essential raw materials from West Asia. These essential industrial inputs include limestone, sulphur, gypsum, direct reduced iron (DRI) and copper wires.
