In view of strengthening their campaign for the upcoming Maharashtra local body election. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that his government will not only continue the Ladki Bahin scheme for women but also aims to create one crore “Lakhpati Didis” in the next two years. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was addressing a rally to campaign for the Mahayuti`s candidates of the Ahmedpur, Udgir, Renapur and other civic body polls. Currently the Maharashtra Government has been running the Ladki Bahin scheme, under which eligible women are provided monthly assistance of Rs 1,500. Fadnavis, while hailing the scheme, said that, “The government will not stop just with the `Ladki Bahin` scheme now and has the target of making one crore `Lakhpati Didi`. Half of the target will be completed this year. We will complete the remaining target in the next two years,” as quoted by news agency PTI.  He further added that, “People should take care of our candidates on December 2, and we will take care of you for the next five years.” …

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to mark International Women’s Day with the ‘Lakhpati Didi Sammelan’ besides inaugurating several developmental projects during his two day visit to Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. In Gujarat’s Navsari district, the PM will attend a ‘Lakhpati Didi’ event and disburse Rs 450 crore in financial assistance to more than 2.5 lakh women from over 25,000 Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The Lakhpati Didi scheme was launched by the Union government in 2023 and recognises women members of SHGs, who have an annual income of at least Rs 1 lakh from agriculture, animal husbandry, and small industries, as ‘Lakhpati Didis’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on March 7 and 8, 2025. As part of his visit, he will travel to the Navsari district on March 8, coinciding with International Women`s Day, reported news agency ANI. Under the Prime Minister`s leadership, `Lakhpati Didi Sammelan` will be held at Vansi-Borsi in Navsari.
