3 Major Takeaways From Latest Escalation

4 min readNew DelhiUpdated: Jun 8, 2026 08:09 PM IST Almost two months after a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire, Iran and Israel traded direct strikes at each other’s territories again, over Sunday night and Monday. For a while, return to full-scale war looked imminent, till Iran announced it was halting its campaign as long as Israel too kept the peace. US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that “Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE!”. An effort to seek attention of asylum seekers and pressurise India: BJP minister Bittu on India-Canada situation | Chandigarh News

The strained relationship between India and Canada has persisted for over a year, with tensions intensifying after both nations withdrew diplomats and India faced accusations of involvement in criminal activities on Canadian soil. BJP minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, from Punjab, stressed the primacy of national interest in a conversation with The Indian Express. What is your take on the current situation between India and Canada? The investigation into Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s case was ongoing, and India has been cooperating. I don’t see why Canada needed to make public statements on this matter. I believe that, in September, National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh withdrew support from Trudeau’s Liberal Party, and since then, Trudeau seems to be trying to woo asylum seekers and hardliners, many of whom are pro-NDP. Though some may not be voters, they work for the parties and campaign for them, acting as a hidden …

(Representational Photo/ News18) Washington criticises Beijing’s attempt to rename places along the disputed China-India border. Tensions rise as both nations assert territorial claims The Biden administration has slammed Beijing’s list of 30 new names for places in India’s Arunachal Pradesh as yet another “unilateral attempt” by China to reassert its territorial claims. This follows New Delhi’s firm response to Beijing’s announcement of Chinese names for places in the Indian state which the neighbouring country claims as the southern part of Tibet. “The United States strongly opposes any unilateral attempts to advance territorial claims by incursions or encroachments, military or civilian, across the Line of Actual Control,” a US State Department representative was quoted as saying by South China Morning Post (SCMP) on Tuesday. “The United States recognises Arunachal Pradesh as Indian territory,” a State Department representative said in a press briefing. On Tuesday, India outrightly rejected as “senseless” …

Seven out of the eight of them have returned to India. We appreciate the decision by the Amir of the State of Qatar to enable the release and home-coming of these nationals,” said the MEA announcing the release.
