Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday strongly criticised the Central government over the proposed legislation concerning Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), calling it “discriminatory” and vowing to repeal it if his party returns to power. Congress Slams Bill as ‘Institutional Injustice’ Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government is attempting to institutionalise discrimination against CAPF personnel through the proposed law. He stated that the bill undermines the morale and career progression of personnel serving in forces such as the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police. According to him, the legislation perpetuates long-standing concerns about inequity in leadership opportunities within paramilitary forces. The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed Talaq-e-Hasan as a “gross discriminatory” practice, while mulling over striking it down. The SC bench led by Justice Surya Kant noted that this issue goes beyond individual disputes, and concerns the “society at large”.(HT Photo) The top court was hearing a series of petitions, including one by journalist Benazeer Heena in 2022. Heena, in her plea, is seeking the declaration of the practice as unconstitutional, while arguing that it is irrational, arbitrary and violative of Articles 14, 15, 21 and 25 of the Constitution, Bar and Bench reported. Vijay, TVK chief and actor, challenges Waqf Amendment Act in Supreme Court, calls it ‘discriminatory’

Several petitioners who moved to the Supreme Court and challenged the Waqf Act said it is against the Muslim community and infringed upon their fundamental rights. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and popular actor Vijay approached the Supreme Court, challenging the recently formed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. After President Droupadi Murmu’s assent on April 5, the Waqf Bill was enacted. Soon after, several opposition parties moved to the Supreme Court, and nationwide protests are ongoing against the Act.  Petitions filed in the court state that the Act was discriminatory towards the Muslim community and violated their fundamental rights. Apple receives EU warning to end ‘discriminatory’ geo-blocking measures

The European Union has accused Apple of unlawfully discriminating against EU customers after finding the Cupertino company’s geo-blocking measures may be violating the bloc’s consumer protection rules.  Announced via a press release on Tuesday, the European Commission and the Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) said a joint investigation had identified “several potentially prohibited geo-blocking practices” that Apple applies to its App Store, iTunes Store, Arcade, Books. Podcasts, and Apple Music services. Issues include restricting consumers to payment methods issued in the same country where their Apple account was registered, preventing app downloads offered in other EU/EEA countries, and having restrictive, region-specific interfaces.  “In the app version of these services, consumers are only allowed to access the interface made for the country where they have registered their Apple account and face significant challenges when attempting to change this, which is not allowed under EU’s anti-geo-blocking rules,” the CPC Network said in the press release.
