Moolamppilly package: revenue officials dismiss need for monthly meetings

Moolamppilly package: revenue officials dismiss need for monthly meetings

Eighteen years since their eviction, 316 families across seven villages in Moolamppilly remain abandoned without rehabilitation, with 41 already dead waiting for justice. File Not having convened a single meeting of the Moolampilly Package Monitoring Committee (MPMC) in the last nearly six months, revenue officials now claim that there was never a decision to hold monthly meetings — despite minutes of multiple meetings stating otherwise — much to the chagrin of families evicted for the rail and road connectivity of the Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal. The minutes of a meeting of the MPMC held as recently as July 21, 2025, suggest holding monthly meetings, while the minutes of another meeting chaired by former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, as far back as 2011, also suggest the same for reviewing the implementation of the rehabilitation package. “We have received no response from the State government on major demands raised at the last meeting, including the issuance of evictee cards and jobs for one member of each displaced family. These are matters beyond our authority, and without …

T20 World Cup captains dismiss 300-plus hype: ‘It’s all about mindset’ | Cricket News

4 min readMumbaiUpdated: Feb 5, 2026 08:53 PM IST As the T20 World Cup gets underway in India and Sri Lanka with speculation mounting about 300-plus totals becoming routine, team captains struck a unified chord: favorable conditions may exist, but mentality and skill execution will determine outcomes. With the 300-run barrier crossed three times internationally, England’s Harry Brook conceded that India’s compact boundaries, fast outfields, and reliable pitches create an environment where such scores are achievable. However, he cautioned against obsessing over milestone numbers. “I think there is plenty of grounds in India where there could be a score of 300+. The wickets look like they are quite good wickets at the minute. Rapid outfields and fairly short boundaries,” Brook said at Thursday’s captains’ event. “You have just got to go out there and be fearless. Not worry about getting out and just keep on trying to take the bowlers on as much as possible.” West Indies captain Shai Hope reinforced that approach, explaining that teams don’t enter matches targeting specific totals. Rather, batters aim …

Andrew McDonald Dismiss Khawaja’s Retirement Talks Ahead of Sydney Test

He said that the selectors have given no indication from Usman Khawaja about his playing future, but have guaranteed his selection in Sydney while acknowledging the batting unit is not functioning at full capacity. He added that Cameron Green batting in five different positionin his last five tests is a result of him having to fit around others due to not being able to bed down a role with a weight of runs and he confirmed that Beau Webster would be considered for Sydney. Australia do not play another test for eight months following the Ashes. Khawaja started the series as Australia’s long-time incumbent opener but has not opened in the series due to suffering back spasms in Perth. HC upholds man’s conviction for stepdaughter’s rape, says victim turning hostile can’t dismiss case

New Delhi, The Delhi High Court has upheld the 20-year jail term of a man for raping his minor stepdaughter, observing that guilt under the POCSO Act cannot be dismissed merely because the victim turned hostile, particularly when scientific evidence was available. HC upholds man’s conviction for stepdaughter’s rape, says victim turning hostile can’t dismiss case The high court said it considered it apposite to take notice of the plight of such victims, who are defenceless against pressure from their family members and are susceptible to influence. Nothing can justify a child being faced with the burden of shielding their perpetrator, it said. It noted that the victim may have retracted from her testimony due to fear of losing shelter, financial stability and the desire to preserve the family unit, especially when the accused is a caregiver or breadwinner. “A child who is confronted with the prospect of condemning someone who provides her shelter and financial stability is undoubtedly faced with a grave conflict. “The child’s instinct for survival coupled with the fear of ostracisation …
