Kiren Rijiju: Congress solely responsible for disruptions in Monsoon Session

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday blamed the Congress for “unfairly disrupting” House proceedings during the Monsoon Session and said it was for the first time in the country that the opposition was “running away” from debate when the government wanted discussion. Addressing a press conference after both Houses of Parliament adjourned sine die, Rijiju said the government was not happy with the level of discussions in Parliament as it has seen very poor productivity. Productivity in Lok Sabha was 19 per cent, and in Rajya Sabha 39 per cent, he said. “For the first time, we have seen the Opposition running away from debate in Parliament when the government wanted discussions. Congress is solely responsible for unfairly disrupting the proceedings,” he said. The minister said 12 bills were passed during the Monsoon Session, but sadly only one saw discussions in both Houses. In a bid to maintain crucial air connectivity amid prevailing conditions in the region, Air India and its subsidiary Air India Express will together operate a total of 42 scheduled and non-scheduled flights to and from West Asia on April 4. Of these, 26 non-scheduled (ad hoc) flights will be deployed to and from various airports in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These additional services are subject to slot availability and other operational conditions at the departure stations. All flights are being operated with necessary approvals from Indian authorities as well as local regulatory bodies in the UAE. According to the detailed summary released by the airline group: UAE: No scheduled operations, but ad hoc flights are planned from several Indian cities. Dubai: Air India from Delhi; Air India Express from Delhi. Abu Dhabi: Air India Express from Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangalore, and Mumbai. Centre rolls out duty cuts to help SEZ units amid Iran war disruptions

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on Wednesday introduced a one-time relief measure for Special Economic Zone (SEZ) units, allowing them to sell goods in the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) at concessional duty rates amid global trade disruptions, reported news agency IANS. Relief Measure Announced in Budget 2026-27 The move follows the Union Budget 2026–27 announcement aimed at supporting manufacturing units in SEZs affected by supply chain disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions, including the Iran conflict. The relief has been implemented through an exemption notification under the Customs Act, 1962 and will remain in effect from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. Concessional Duty Rates for SEZ Units Under the new framework, SEZ units can sell goods domestically at reduced customs duty rates. Duties of 20 per cent have been cut to 12.5 per cent, while those in the 20–30 per cent range have been reduced to 15 per cent, reported IANS. Around 5,72,000 passengers have returned from the West Asia region to India and with the Qatar airspace partially open, around 8–10 non-scheduled commercial flights are expected to operate to the country on Tuesday, the government said.  In the UAE, around 85 flights are expected to operate across the day. Limited non-scheduled flights continue based on operational and safety considerations. Flights continue to operate from Oman and Saudi Arabia to India, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Kuwait and Bahrain airspaces remain closed. Special non-scheduled commercial flights are operating from Dammam Airport in Saudi Arabia to various destinations in India. “In view of the airspace closure in Iran, travel of Indian nationals is being facilitated through Armenia and Azerbaijan. In view of airspace restrictions in Israel, travel of Indian nationals is being facilitated via Egypt and Jordan,” said the ministry.
