Man gets life sentence for killing grandmother in Kakinada dist.

A local court in Pithapuram on Wednesday convicted a 36-year-old man in connection with the 2025 murder case and awarded a life sentence to him. On July 12, 2025, the accused, Gosala John had beaten to death his grandmother, Benugu Deenamma, after she rejected his appeal for money in their house at Narsipeta village in Kakinada district, Peddapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police A.B.G. Tilak stated in a release.  Gosala Padma, the mother of the convict, registered a complaint and based on it, the police registered a case against John. Pregnant woman ends her life in Polavaram dist.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman allegedly ended her life due to physical harassment by her husband suspecting her infidelity at Tekulaboru village of Kunavaram mandal in Chintoor agency on Sunday. The woman, Boddu Sandhya of Koya tribe, is in her third trimester and expected to deliver baby in June. “Sandhya’s husband, Akhil has been harassing her, suspecting her fidelity. On Sunday, she has ended her life at her residence,” Kunavaram Sub-Inspector B. Ramakrishna told The Hindu over phone. The police have recovered the body of Sandhya and sent it to Kunavaram government hospital. The Kunavaram SI said that Mr. Akhil has been taken into custody and the investigation is under way. Shillong: The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in Meghalaya on Monday amended its rules to mandate Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates for contesting council elections, following recent unrest, deaths and curfew over the participation of non-tribal candidates. The decision, taken during a special session, aims to ensure tribal representation and will now be sent for state and gubernatorial approval under the Sixth Schedule. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma welcomed the decision. (PTI) The move comes weeks after violence in the Garo Hills triggered by ambiguity in the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous District Council Rules, 1951, regarding eligibility of non-tribal candidates. The amendment restricts candidature to recognised Scheduled Tribes, a long-standing demand of several tribal organisations. Officials said the proposal will be forwarded to the state government and then to the Governor for assent. Ela Foundation is holding the 6th Indian Owl Festival from December 4-6 at Ela Habitat, Pingori, Taluka Purandar, Pune.The festival aims at creating awareness about the importance of owls in the ecosystem. “Owls are friends of farmers since they play an important role in controlling crop pests. Moreover, owls are shrouded in superstitious beliefs which are prominently addressed in the festival to promote their conservation. We expect more than 25,000 participants in this year’s exhibition and performance,” Dr Satish Pande, Director Ela Foundation said. The foundation has adopted various novel educational modalities to sensitise the public about owls. This innovative school is located in the remote Bangarupalli hamlet, within the Kanthanapally Gram Panchayat limits of Kannaigudem mandal, Mulugu district. This marks the first instance of a government school being established in a container in the State, aimed at addressing the infrastructural challenges faced by educational institutions in forest regions. Currently operates out of a dilapidated hut Bangarupalli, a tribal hamlet in the Kanthanapally forest, currently operates a school out of a dilapidated hut. Due to restrictions on constructing permanent buildings in forest areas, authorities could not secure permission to build a conventional school.
