The deceased has been identified as Yedukondalu, a native of Cherukumudi village in Manubolu mandal of the district. His family members and relatives alleged that he died due to ‘third-degree torture’ for three days while in custody at Manubolu police station. Former Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy and MLC Meriga Muralidhar visited Gudur Government Hospital to inspect Yedukondalu’s body. Concern as district records five leptospirosis deaths in July

The health situation in Ernakulam remains a matter of concern, with the district recording five leptospirosis deaths in the first 13 days of July, the highest in the State. The deaths were reported from Kalamassery, Kuttampuzha, Kadayiruppu, Pattimattom, and Udyogamandal. The district continues to report a high number of infectious disease cases this month, with influenza cases remaining the highest in the State. As of July 13, Ernakulam had reported 392 influenza cases. The district also recorded 536 suspected and 252 confirmed cases of dengue, along with five suspected and 19 confirmed cases of leptospirosis. The remaining leptospirosis deaths were reported from Palakkad, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kottayam, with one death reported from each district. Dengue cases have been reported from Aluva, Cheranalloor, Edappally, Edathala, Kadavanthra, Kalamassery, Kaloor, Kothamangalam, Nedumbassery, Parakkadavu, Perumbavoor, Piravom, Eroor, Thrikkakara, and Thripunithura, among other parts of Ernakulam district. The rebel faction has the support of about 65 of the 80 MLAs in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly. The rebels announced district presidents for 26 organisational districts. They include sitting MLAs and former loyalists of party chief Mamata Banerjee. Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondal, who was considered a loyalist of Ms. Banerjee, was nominated the Birbhum district president of therebel camp. The other notable names include Narendranath Chakraborty, who was nominated district president of Paschim Bardhaman, Debasish Kumar from Kolkata South, and MLA Emani Biswas as head of the party of Jangigur organisational district. 400 government primary schools to get facelift in Kakinada district

At least 400 government model primary schools in Kakinada district have been identified for infrastructure upgrades under the ‘Our School – Our Future’ initiative. District Collector M. N. Harendhira Prasad said the selected schools would be provided with basic infrastructure through minor repair works, improved drinking water facilities, renovation of toilets, painting of school buildings and other essential amenities. Officials of the Kakinada Municipal Corporation, the School Education Department, Rural Water Supply, Housing, Public Health and Engineering departments have been directed to submit a final assessment of the requirements in the identified schools by July 5. School Management Committees will also be involved in implementing the initiative.
