“Batenge Toh Katenge” Slogan Divides Not Just Allies, But Some In BJP Too

“Batenge Toh Katenge” Slogan Divides Not Just Allies, But Some In BJP Too

Mumbai: BJP star campaigner Yogi Adityanath’s “Batenge toh katenge” slogan, at the forefront of the party campaign in Maharashtra, is not only making its allies squirm, it is also causing deep discomfort among a section of BJP leaders, which has been voiced by Pankaja Munde and Ashok Chavan. Among allies, Ajit Pawar, the leader of Nationalist Congress Party, has already shared his misgivings, saying while such slogans may work in the north, it is not appropriate for Maharashtra, the “land of saints and followers of Shiva”. The “Batenge toh katenge (Division is destruction)” slogan, which the Opposition alleged has communal overtones, has already been tweaked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Ek hai toh safe hai,” PM Modi had said earlier this month, repackaging its message of unity.  But it did not forestall a gusher of disapproval from party leaders and allies.  Pankaja Munde, daughter of late BJP stalwart Gopinath Munde, was the first to speak up.  “Frankly, my politics is different. I won’t support it just because I belong to the same party. My belief …

Study Reveals How Brain Divides Continuous Experiences into ‘Movie Scenes’

Study Reveals How Brain Divides Continuous Experiences into ‘Movie Scenes’

New research has uncovered how the brain organises daily experiences into meaningful segments, much like scenes in a film. While we perceive life as a continuous flow, our brains automatically break memories into distinct moments. Scientists have long debated whether these boundaries are set by environmental changes or if they are determined by personal interpretation. Now, a study led by Christopher Baldassano, associate professor of psychology at Columbia University, suggests that the brain actively chooses these transitions based on our goals and experiences, offering new insights into memory formation. How does the brain decide where one memory ends and another begins? To explore this, Baldassano and his team conducted a brain-scan experiment using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Volunteers listened to narratives involving various scenarios, such as a business deal, a proposal, and a breakup, while their brain activity was recorded. The research focused on changes in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), a brain region involved in processing ongoing events. The results showed that when key social events in the narratives occurred, such as the …

Emma Stone’s Twisted Comedy Kinds Of Kindness Divides Cannes

Emma Stone in a still from Kinds Of Kindness.(courtesy: YouTube) Emma Stone and director Yorgos Lanthimos brought audiences yet another hilarious and freaky film as Kinds of Kindness premiered in competition in Cannes on Friday. The triptych, in which the same cast of actors recount three separate stories, was filmed as the Greek filmmaker put the final touches to his feminist Frankenstein remake Poor Things for which Emma Stone won an Oscar. Its occasionally repulsive scenes are balanced by dark humour, notably Willem Dafoe as a creepy guru in an orange speedo and one very shocking home movie that got big laughs at Cannes screenings. “I thought it was funny and Emma thought it was funny, but we didn’t know if people are going to find it funny,” Lanthimos said before the premiere. In early reviews, the Guardian called it a “macabre, absurdist triptych”, while Variety called it a “quizzical concoction bound to baffle and delight”. Lanthimos said that, as trust grows between him and Stone, the duo has become “more bold and more brave”. …

‘Scrabble for dummies?’ Mattel’s new Gen Z version of the classic divides Internet | puzzles and games News

Mattel has unveiled ‘Scrabble Together’, a collaborative version of the classic word game. Hoping to attract a wider audience, the new gameplay is shorter, more flexible, and removes the traditional scoring system that has been in place for 75 years. Fans have some very strong feelings about this. How do the new rules work? In ‘Scrabble Together’, the usual scoring system is replaced by ‘goal cards’, where players have to complete certain goals as a team. There are also ‘helper cards’, which enable teams to assist each other. The team that completes 20 goal cards first wins, in a setting that prompts players to work together instead of being pit against each other. Loyalists have mixed opinions about this. Some are optimistic about the “fun twist”, while others aren’t mincing their words about Mattel ‘ruining’ what is already a simple, all-ages game. One Reddit user went as far as to call ‘Scrabble Together’ a “dumbed-down version for dummies”. Gen Z shows a preference for cooperation over competition, which is at the heart of ‘Scrabble Together’. …
