They, however, tried to stretch the match and won the third game 11-8 and had a great start to the fourth game as well, leading 7-2 from the start. But then the Chinese stars showed their class, winning nine of the next ten points to mount a thrilling comeback and knock the Indians out. Manika Batra left out of India’s Asian Games Table Tennis main squad, Ayhika Mukherjee misses out

India’s most decorated women’s table tennis player, Manika Batra, has been left out of the main squad for the 2026 Asian Games after failing to satisfy the selection criteria laid down by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI). The 30-year-old, who won a historic mixed doubles bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games and has multiple Commonwealth Games medals to her name, was named among the reserve players for the continental event scheduled in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. According to TTFI, selections were made based on a policy introduced in 2023, which allocates 50 per cent weightage to national rankings, 40 per cent to world rankings and the remaining 10 per cent to the discretion of the selection committee. Despite being India’s second-highest ranked women’s player at World No. 51, behind Sreeja Akula at No. 45, Manika’s absence from domestic tournaments meant she did not feature prominently in the national rankings, affecting her overall selection score. The decider also saw leads exchange hands multiple times before Ghorpade held her nerves in the final moments to secure the title. WTT Star Contender Chennai 2026 draw pits Indian stars on collision course

The main draw for the WTT Star Contender Chennai 2026 has handed Indian contenders a challenging route, with several top players placed in the same quarter of the men’s singles competition. Last edition semi-finalist Manav Thakkar, seasoned campaigner Sathiyan G and WTT Feeder Vadodara 2026 champion Manush Shah have all received first-round byes. However, the trio find themselves in the same section of the draw, raising the possibility of an all-Indian clash in the Round of 16 if results go their way. Manav and Manush could meet in the pre-quarterfinals should both clear their second-round assignments. Tenth seed Sathiyan is also in the same quarter and may face compatriot Harmeet Desai in the Round of 16, provided Harmeet overcomes eighth seed Eduard Ionescu in his second-round encounter. Sathiyan’s own path is equally demanding. He is projected to face Korea Republic’s Lim Jonghoon, a former world top-10 singles player and current world No. 1 in mixed doubles, in the second round. If the Indian quartet progress as scheduled, the country will be assured of at least …
