New Delhi As part of the initial pilot phase, dedicated bike taxi services shall be deployed at the Millennium City Centre station. (HT Archive) The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday announced that it would launch last-mile connectivity service at 10 Metro stations across the national capital region (NCR) through the Bharat Taxi mobile application by the end of the month. The service will be integrated with the DMRC’s Sarthi app and provide bike taxis, autorickshaws and four-wheeler cabs, officials said. The Bharat Taxi is a mobility platform run by Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL), a multistate cooperative backed by the Government of India, under an initiative of the ministry of cooperation. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has clarified that even when some CCTV cameras inside its trains are under maintenance, the covered area mostly does not have any blind spot, with other cameras working. The DMRC issued the clarification in response to a study based on data obtained under RTI Act that stated that 300-500 CCTV cameras inside Delhi Metro trains were found to be non-functional every year between 2020 and 2024. “Even in the case of such CCTVs under maintenance, the area mostly remains free from any blind spot due to wide coverage available through adjacent CCTVs. This is due to efficacy of this robust mechanism that no major cases of any untowardly incident have been reported in all these years,” DMRC said. The entire stretch will comprise 21 stations, all of them elevated. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the project is scheduled to be completed in four years from the date of its sanction. With this expansion, Delhi Metro will become one of the largest three metro networks in the world, he added. This line will be an extension of the operational Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda)-Rithala (Red Line) corridor and will boost connectivity in the northwestern parts of Delhi, such as Narela, Bawana and parts of Rohini.
