WTC Points Table after New Zealand and England are docked 3 penalty points each: Kiwis drop down to 5th, India still on top | Cricket News

ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Points Table Update: New Zealand and England were both docked three penalty points due to slow overate in the 1st Test between the two countries with the Kiwis’ aspirations to book a spot in the World Test Championship final suffering a blow. With the 3-point penalty, the Black Caps have now slid down to 5th spot with Sri Lanka, Australia, South Africa and India all ahead of them. The penalty to the Kiwis was a welcome news for India who lead the table with 61.11 percentage points. New Zealand now have a points percentage of 47.92 percent and can only move as high as 55.36 percent with victories from their remaining two fixtures against England. South Africa (59.26), Australia (57.26) and Sri Lanka (50) are placed second, third and fourth respectively. This means New Zealand will now have to win both the remaining matches against England and wait for several other results to go their way if they want to make it to the final in 2025 at Lords. “The …

County Side Docked 12 Points After Pakistan-Origin Star’s “Batting Gear” Blunder

Essex are now 54 points behind runaway leaders and reigning champions Surrey.© X (Twitter) Essex have described English cricket chiefs as “absolutely stupid” for docking the county 12 points because one of their players used a bat ruled too wide. The club’s slim hopes of winning the County Championship First Division have all but evaporated after a bat, used by Feroze Khushi in April’s match against Nottinghamshire, was found to have exceeded the permitted dimensions. Khushi made 21 in his second innings when the bat was ruled to have breached the regulations when tested by the match umpires. The decision was made by the Cricket Discipline Commission, which is independent of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). However, that did not prevent Essex president and former England captain Keith Fletcher from hitting out at the ECB. “Feroze does not believe he did anything wrong and the whole side has been penalised, not just the one player,” Fletcher told The Times. “As a batsman I know that a few millimetres either way is …

Nottingham Forest Docked Four Points For Breaching Premier League Financial Rules

Representative image© AFP Nottingham Forest have been given a four-point penalty for breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations, according to reports on Monday. The Premier League charged Forest and Everton with breaches of the league’s profitability and sustainability rules in January. If confirmed, Forest’s points deduction would plunge them into the relegation zone. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, currently in 17th place on 25 points, would have just 21 points. That would leave them in 18th place, one point behind Luton, who would climb out of the bottom three as a result of Forest’s deduction. Everton were deducted 10 points in November, which was reduced to six on appeal. The Goodison Park club are still waiting to discover if they will be hit with another points penalty relating to their second charge. Premier League clubs can lose £105 million ($133.5 million) over three seasons, but because Forest spent two years of the assessment period in the Championship, their maximum loss was only permitted to be £61 million, according to the reports. Forest could appeal the punishment, …

Italian FA Prosecutors Ask for Juventus To Be Docked Nine Points Over Suspicious Transfers

Italian Football Federation have requested for points deduction of Juventus© AFP Prosecutors at the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) asked Friday that Juventus be docked nine points as the governing body’s court mulls whether to reopen a trial over suspicious football transfers. Juventus, three other Serie A clubs and 62 people including former Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli were acquitted by the FIGC’s court last year of using transfers to artificially boost their balance sheets. However the FIGC prosecutors who brought that case are again seeking sanctions against Juve after studying documents from the separate criminal investigation of the club’s accounts carried out in Turin. A source at the FIGC confirmed to AFP that the points deduction had been requested and said that a decision on the reopening of the sporting trial would arrive by Friday evening. Prosecutors have also asked for Agnelli, who was officially replaced as Juve chairman this week after stepping down along with the rest of the club’s board in November, to be banned for 16 months. Former sporting director Fabio Paratici, now …

Russia plans to launch new Soyuz spacecraft to replace a leaky one docked at the ISS

A Russian Soyuz spacecraft docked to the International Space Station (ISS) began leaking coolant early last month, leading to concerns about whether the vehicle would be safe to transport ISS crew members back to Earth.  NASA and Russian space agency Roscosmos have now announced they will be sending a replacement spacecraft for NASA astronaut Frank Rubio and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin in which to travel home. A SpaceX Crew Dragon is also available as a contingency option should it be required. Roscosmos will send a replacement Soyuz called MS-23 to the ISS, launching on February 20th so it can be used to return the astronauts to Earth. This mission had been scheduled to launch in March carrying new crew members, but it will now launch earlier and with no crew. NASA is referring to the new Soyuz as a replacement vehicle, not a rescue, and is emphasizing that the space station crew is safe. “We’re not calling it a rescue Soyuz. Right now, the crew is safe aboard the space station,” Joel …
