Maharashtra launches QR-based verification system in fight against bogus doctors

Announcing the initiative in the State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif said, “by scanning the QR code, citizens can instantly verify whether a doctor is legally registered to practise,” Mushrif told the Assembly. Tripura govt bars GBP-AGMC doctors from private practice

The Tripura government has decided to bar doctors at the state-run GBP-AGMC hospital from private practice to improve services at the health facility, a minister said. A 20 per cent hike on basic salary will be given as a non-practice allowance to faculty members and medical officers of GB Pant Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College, state Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Tuesday. He said the council of ministers, in its last meeting held on Monday, passed a proposal to bar the faculty members and medical officers of GBP Pant Hospital & AGMC from private practice. “In exchange, they will get a 20 per cent hike in basic salary as a non-practice allowance. A notification will be issued soon in this regard,” he said. The decision, the minister said, was taken to improve services at the state’s premier healthcare institution. “Chief Minister Manik Saha views that despite the strengthening of infrastructure, complaints are being received when it comes to the satisfaction of patients. Odisha to act against 128 doctors absent from duty for over 5 years: CM Majhi

Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday directed the health and family welfare department to initiate disciplinary proceedings against 128 government doctors who have remained unauthorisedly absent from duty for more than five years. Majhi also ordered the dismissal of Dr Bichakshana Panigrahi, former Medical Officer at Kandhamal Police Hospital, from government service According to the chief minister’s office, medical officers and dental surgeons posted in government hospitals across the state were found absent from service without authorisation for prolonged periods, adversely affecting healthcare delivery, particularly in rural and remote areas. Majhi also ordered the dismissal of Dr Bichakshana Panigrahi, former Medical Officer at Kandhamal Police Hospital, from government service. Officials said similar cases of long-term absenteeism are being examined, and further action may be taken following verification of service records. He reiterated that doctors employed by the government must remain posted at their assigned locations and ensure the delivery of healthcare services, particularly in underserved regions where access to medical care remains limited.
