‘Why pay again?’: How Ajith skipped a Rs 4.5 cr fund-raiser but donated Rs 10 lakh instead | Tamil News

4 min readHyderabadJul 17, 2026 03:19 PM IST In 2002, when the South Indian Film Artistes’ Association, commonly known as the Nadigar Sangam, organised star night shows in Singapore and Malaysia to clear debts of approximately Rs 4.5 crore, nearly the entire Tamil film industry participated. However, one of its biggest names was conspicuously absent, and that was Ajith Kumar. His reasoning: audiences already spend their money buying tickets to watch our films, so why should actors organise events and ask the same people to pay again? The event was organised under the leadership of Captain Vijayakanth, who was then serving as the president of the association. To clear the dues, he had put together the overseas star night events to raise the funds needed. The events were coordinated by Vijayakanth along with Sarathkumar, Napolean, SS Chandran and Radha Ravi, with Rajinikanth among the top stars who performed at the shows. What happened? South Indian Film Artistes’ Association functions as a trade union for film, television and stage actors in Tamil Nadu and has over …

When Ben Affleck Donated 100% Of Weinstein Film Residuals To Support Women’s Causes

Did Ben Affleck donate all of Harvey Weinstein’s film residuals? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia) Amid the Harvey Weinstein scandal’s eruption, the Justice League star decided to take a very public stand—by donating 100% of his residuals from Weinstein films. No joke. As he bluntly put it, “I just didn’t want to cash any more checks from the guy, you know?” Talk about cutting ties in style. We all know Ben Affleck’s history with Weinstein. He starred in Good Will Hunting, which, let’s be real, helped shape his career. But when the scandal hit and the smoke cleared, Affleck wasn’t just sitting on the sidelines. He did what a lot of us probably wished others had done—he gave back. Every cent earned from his Weinstein flicks? Gone. Sent straight to Film Independent (FI) and RAINN, organizations supporting women in the industry and survivors of assault. That’s how you take accountability. Now, let’s be clear: this wasn’t a throwaway PR stunt. Sure, Affleck could’ve stayed quiet, played the victim, or just cashed his checks and kept moving. …
