SIR Phase-3: EC to conduct door-to-door verification of 36.73 crore voters

The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the launch of Phase-3 of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 16 states and three Union Territories as part of a nationwide exercise aimed at improving the accuracy and inclusiveness of voter lists ahead of future elections. The poll panel said the exercise would be carried out in a phased manner, with the Phase-3 schedule finalised keeping in mind the availability of common field machinery currently engaged in the ongoing Census house-listing operations. With the rollout of Phase-3, SIR exercise will now cover the entire country, except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir and Ladakh. The commission said schedules for these regions would be announced later after considering the completion of Phase-2 of the Census and weather-related challenges in upper and snow-bound areas. According to the commission, more than 3.94 lakh booth level officers (BLOs) will carry out intensive house-to-house verification of nearly 36.73 crore electors during Phase-3. Over 700 trained personnel will start field operations under the house-listing and housing census (HLO), wherein the enumerators will visit households to record their details under Phase-1 of the Census 2027, officials said on Wednesday. The exercise will be carried out over a 30-day period, until May 15. The exercise will begin on Thursday in eight states and Union territories. The Cyberabad police, who started this initiative in May this year, said that they took this initiative to do away with challans pending for years, and to curb repeat offenders. The push also follows a string of serious incidents involving vehicles with unpaid challans this year. Even in the recent Chevella tragedy in which 19 people died, the lorry carried multiple unpaid challans as did the bus involved in Kurnool fire mishap, for violations such as entering no-entry zones, signal jumping and stop-line crossing. The numbers uncovered the sheer scale of the problem. It was found that 24 vehicles had piled up more than 100 challans each, with one of the offenders reaching 162. Police also identified 12,425 vehicles with exactly 10 challans and 42,777 with between 11 and 20. Another 7,325 had accumulated between 21 and 30 challans, while 2,081 …

Mysuru district ready to launch door-to-door healthcare service ‘Gruha Arogya’

The Department of Health and Family Welfare in Mysuru is gearing up for the launch of the “Gruha Arogya”, the State government’s initiative to provide healthcare services at doorsteps. Doctors will reach out to every household in the district, carry out free health check-ups, and provide necessary treatment. In case of those who need further treatment, such patients will be referred to hospitals. The programme will be implemented in rural areas, and the community health officers will lead the doorstep screening with the help of the health department staff, ASHA workers, and volunteers. The programme is only meant for the people above 30 years. The idea behind launching the programme is to detect diseases early and provide treatment. The programme was launched on a pilot basis in Kolar district, and it is now being expanded to other districts, including Mysuru. In the Budget presented last month, it has been proposed to extend the “Gruha Arogya” scheme for screening and treating six non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the State at a cost of ₹100 crore.
