Director of Animal Husbandry, Government of Andhra Pradesh, T. Damdoar Naidu, on Wednesday issued an advisory to the poultry farmers in light of avian influenza (bird flu) outbreak. Dr. Damodar Naidu said the poultry farmers were advised to set up footbaths at the entrances of poultry sheds using 0.01% potassium permanganate, sprinkle 2% sodium hypochlorite, bleaching powder, or lime around the poultry sheds, and ensure personal hygiene of the staff working in the sheds. “Wash hands and feet thoroughly with Dettol, or soap before entering and after leaving the sheds,” he said. Dr. Damodar Naidu further said it was necessary to avoid introducing new chicken into the sheds. “Do not allow people, vehicles, feed, or equipment from other farms to enter the sheds. If a chicken dies, immediately remove the litter, remaining feed, and water, and place them in plastic bags, and either burn or bury them far away. The Telangana government on Saturday issued Dos and Don’ts following the Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) outbreak in China.  The state Health Department confirmed that no HMPV cases have been reported in Telangana and that data analysis of respiratory infections within the state show no significant increase in December 2024 compared to the last year.  The Telangana Public Health Department has urged citizens to follow certain instructions, and said there is no cause for alarm regarding the HMPV reports and the department is closely coordinating with the Ministry of Health at the Centre.
