DPCC invites bids for installation, maintenance of 10 air quality monitoring stations in Delhi

New Delhi, The Delhi Pollution Control Committee has floated a tender for the supply, installation, commissioning and 10-year operation and maintenance of 10 Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations across the capital. DPCC invites bids for installation, maintenance of 10 air quality monitoring stations in Delhi The project aims to strengthen Delhi’s air quality monitoring infrastructure through installation of at least 13 additional air quality monitoring stations this year. Out of these, 10 of them will function under DPCC. According to the tender document dated May 14, the selected bidder will be responsible not only for supply and installation of the stations but also for their operation and maintenance for a 10-year period from the date of commissioning. The scope of work includes daily reporting of ambient air quality data to the DPCC and the Central Pollution Control Board , along with online transfer and integration of data with government platforms. The stations will include analysers for gaseous pollutants, particulate matter monitors, meteorological instruments, calibration systems, display boards, UPS systems and other supporting infrastructure. Most Delhi STPs fail pollution norms despite high treatment capacity, DPCC finds

Most Delhi STPs fail pollution norms despite high treatment capacity, DPCC finds

The Delhi government maintains that its sewage treatment plants (STPs) are operating at more than 88% capacity, suggesting most wastewater is being processed. Yet, analysis by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) paints a different picture: water discharged from the city’s plants continues to fall short of national quality norms. Of 17 drains carrying treated effluent, 16 showed pollutant levels above permissible limits. Tests revealed breaches across key parameters — pH, total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and biological oxygen demand (BOD). Elevated BOD, for example, reflects organic waste that depletes dissolved oxygen, threatening aquatic life. DPCC’s October report recorded severe exceedances, with BOD reaching 145 mg/l in the Sahibabad drain, 110 mg/l in Shahdara, and 60 mg/l in Najafgarh. COD levels also overshot safe limits, peaking at 296 mg/l in Shahdara and 152 mg/l in Najafgarh, compared with 50 mg/l standards. “Such high values, especially in a non-lean month, indicate that large amounts of untreated or poorly treated sewage are entering these drains, carrying organic waste and chemicals that the treatment system …

Delhi Yamuna pollution severe despite partial improvements, most sewage treatment plants underperforming: DPCC

Delhi Yamuna pollution severe despite partial improvements, most sewage treatment plants underperforming: DPCC

Faecal contamination, a key indicator of untreated sewage, peaked at 1.5 million MPN/100ml by the time the river exited Delhi, far above the acceptable limit of 500 units for outdoor bathing. New Delhi: Yamuna remains severely polluted despite partial improvements, says April DPCC report The latest assessment by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) reveals that the Yamuna river remains heavily polluted, with certain parameters worsening in April. Faecal contamination, a key indicator of untreated sewage, peaked at 1.5 million MPN/100ml by the time the river exited Delhi, far above the acceptable limit of 500 units for outdoor bathing. This marks an increase from 1.3 million MPN/100ml in March 2025 and a sharp contrast to April 2024 levels, which were recorded at 430,000 units. Sewage treatment plants underperforming In a separate report, the DPCC found that 16 out of Delhi Jal Board’s 37 sewage treatment plants (STPs) failed to meet prescribed standards in April. These plants are critical to maintaining water quality, and their poor performance is directly linked to pollution levels in the river. …

5 years and counting: NGT raps DDA, other agencies for failure to clear Yamuna floodplains of encroachments | Delhi News

5 years and counting: NGT raps DDA, other agencies for failure to clear Yamuna floodplains of encroachments | Delhi News

Five years after issuing an order for freeing the Yamuna floodplains from encroachments, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently pulled up the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Forest Department over non-compliance. The tribunal bench comprising chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava observed, “After that order of the Tribunal, more than five years have passed, but till now the order has not been complied with.” In the 22-km stretch between Wazirabad and Okhla in Delhi where Yamuna flows, the DDA and other agencies were directed to remove encroachments in the floodplains in a 2019 order passed by the NGT and an April order last year by the Delhi High Court. Citing various other orders, including a writ petition titled, ‘Shabnam Burney vs Union of India & Ors’, wherein the petitioner sought directions to remove illegal encroachments in the Yamuna floodplains, the HC — in its interim order in April last year — directed the DDA Vice Chairman to remove all encroachments and illegal construction on the Yamuna river bank, river bed and …
