House of the Dragon’s Gayle Rankin gets offered many ‘witchy roles’ after Alys Rivers: ‘Very typecast’ | Interview

In the latest episode of House of the Dragon, HBO’s global sensation, Alys Rivers (played by Gayle Rankin), caused quite a stir when she intimidated a couple of dragonriders by proclaiming, ‘I am a witch!’ It only adds to the enigma that Alys is, in the books as well as in the show. Ahead of the episode’s release, Gayle Rankin sat down with Hindustan Times to discuss her character and the ‘witchy’ typecast she gladly finds herself with. Ewan Mitchell and Gayle Rankin react to House of the Dragon fan art. Gayle Rankin on Alys and Aemond Alys Rivers was introduced in the show’s second season, and her arc took her in the opposite direction from Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith). Italy’s final step towards ending World Cup exile goes through ‘Dragon’s Nest’ in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Italy’s final step towards ending World Cup exile goes through ‘Dragon’s Nest’ in Bosnia and Herzegovina

For Italy to end their World Cup exile, they need to slay the ‘dragon’ in the ‘dragon’s nest’ and beat the ‘curse’. Dragon is the name Bosnia and Herzegovina football team goes by, a wink to the legendary 19th century general Husein Kapetan Gradascevic – called the ‘Dragon of Bosnia’ – and Dragon’s Nest is their terrifying home arena called Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica. The ‘curse’ was that foreign teams always lost here, though post 2015, it has ceased to be a fortress. Only 9,000 spectators would watch the play-off, a number that could squeeze into one stand of Milan’s San Siro stadium, which could hold close to 80,000 spectators. But the visitors would not be pleased to know the reason why the arena, which resembles a postcard from the 1980s, will be half-empty. The stadium is serving a sanction after local supporters assaulted Romania’s fans, hurled abuses and blew firecrackers. Romania’s players confided that they never played in a more hostile or noisy atmosphere. The stands almost hug the ground; the technical area …

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms review: Simply brilliant GoT prequel proves fantasy doesn’t always need dragons or wars

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms review: Simply brilliant GoT prequel proves fantasy doesn’t always need dragons or wars

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Creator: Ira Parker Cast: Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Daniel Ings, Shaun Thomas, Tanzyn Crawford, Danny Webb, Henry Ashton, Sam Spruell, Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel Rating: ★★★★.5 Minus that final season (which we shall not talk about from hereon), Game of Thrones really set the standard for world-building in the fantasy genre on television. Since then, a Lord of the Rings spinoff, The Wheel of Time, and even House of the Dragon fell short. The mistake all of them made was that in going bigger and grander, they sacrificed what truly makes fantasy click – the characters and their motivations. The Lord of the Rings was never about how grand Mount Doom looked or which Balrog was scarier. It worked because we connected with Frodo. Harry Potter became a fan-favourite not because WB filled it with Oscar winners and spent hundreds of millions on VFX, but because the audience resonated with the original trio. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms review: Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell shine in this …
