At least 22 students were injured, including one seriously, after a private school bus overturned into a roadside drain in Latur district of central Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, reported the PTI. Police said the accident happened at around 9.30 am near the Sandol-Mahandol Road in Chakur tehsil when the bus was travelling to school with around 35 students on board. According to preliminary information, the bus belonged to Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Vidyalaya in Rachannawadi. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and overturn into a small roadside drain. Local residents rushed to the scene and helped rescue the children before emergency services arrived. Injured students taken to hospital The injured students were taken to the Rural Hospital in Chakur for treatment. Police officers, led by Inspector Balaji Bhande, reached the scene and supervised the rescue operation. The revelation comes as the ED carried out searches at 12 premises across Panchkula and nearby areas in connection with the alleged Rs 145-crore civic fund fraud. The raids, conducted across Chandigarh, Zirakpur, Dera Bassi and Rajpura, led to the seizure of sale-purchase agreements and other incriminating documents linked to suspected money laundering, officials said. The ED initiated its probe based on an FIR registered by the Anti Corruption Bureau Panchkula against unknown officials of Kotak Mahindra Bank, alleging embezzlement of around Rs 145 crore from municipal funds through a well-planned conspiracy. A 34-year-old labourer allegedly drowned in an open drain after losing balance in an inebriated state while returning home from work, police said on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Wasim, a native of Chandausi in Moradabad district, was living in a rented accommodation in Mawai village in Vijay Nagar area, they said. The incident occurred on Friday night near Labour Chowk. On receiving information, the police reached the spot and retrieved the man from the drain with the help of locals, they said.
