₹128-crore underground drainage scheme works begin in Madhira town

Work on the ₹128-crore underground drainage scheme in Madhira town of Khammam district got under way with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka performing bhoomi puja in the town on Sunday. The scheme is being taken up under the Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (TUFIDC) assistance, official sources said. It will have a sewerage pipeline network that runs a length of around 99 km and four sewage treatment plants (STPs) connecting around 6,638 houses in Madhira municipal limits. It will help improve sewage management and hygiene standards, thereby safeguarding public health and making Madhira a model municipality, sources added. The Deputy CM instructed the officials to ensure time-bound completion of the works in strict adherence to the stipulated quality standards. The rains that lashed Mysuru on April 29 night had worsened the woes of traders, who are forced to put up with not only slushy drainage water in front of their shops, but also the foul smell emanating from it. As the old RMC yard is a sub-yard of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), a group of traders complained to the APMC authorities on April 30, and sought an early solution to their woes. Polavaram Authority writes to CWC for drainage congestion study of 6 streams

HYDERABAD As being demanded for long by the Telangana government, the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) has written to the Central Water Commission (CWC) to take up a drainage congestion study of six streams in Telangana due to the Polavaram project. In a letter addressed to the CWC Chairman recently, the PPA said technical meetings chaired by the CWC Chairman were held on October 7, 2022; January 25, 2023; April 3, 2023 and August 28, 2024 following the Supreme Court directions dated September 6, 2022 on the inter-state issues of Polavaram project. During the meetings, Telangana raised issues regarding submergence on account of Polavaram project and it was concluded that demarcating the areas affected due to submergence along Kinnerasani and Murreduvagu rivers be taken up as per the directions of the National Green Tribunal orders of September 18, 2020. Further, it was decided to take up a joint survey in respect of 6-7 big streams joining below the full reservoir level of Polavaram project in Telangana to check the backwater effect of the project, to check …
