Stalin on Sunday (June 7, 2026) said though he had earlier maintained the government headed by the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) should be given six months before being criticised, the prevailing circumstances would not permit such a wait. “I fear that the situation warrants criticism even within three months. The government is being run in such a manner,” he said at a meeting organised to welcome former Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) MLA Panaiyur Babu into the DMK in Chennai. The Sohana police has booked a woman clerk deployed on an outsourced basis with the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board for allegedly marking fake attendance and drawing salary without reporting for duty. The accused has been identified as Komal Sharma, a resident of Subhash Nagar, Manimajra, Chandigarh. She is the sister-in-law of Chandigarh Ward No. 4 councillor Suman Sharma, who resently switched over to the BJP from the AAP. Police registered a case against her under Section 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused was produced before the duty magistrate on Sunday and was remanded in two-day custody, said DSP (City-2) Harsimran Singh Bal. Police said Komal Sharma worked as a clerk (outsourced) with the board. Her duty was assigned at the camp office of the chairman in Sector 76, Mohali, while her attendance reports were submitted to the main office in Sector 27, Chandigarh. A new rule of not apppointing a drawing teacher if a government-run or aided school has less than 500 students has drawn criticism from such teachers, who say the rule is contradictory to recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises on holistic education. An association of drawing and sports teachers has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as well as school education minister Dada Bhuse demanding that this clause in the new rules of sanctioning teaching and non-teaching posts in government-run or aided schools should be reviewed and drawing teachers should be considered at par with sports teachers, which have one sanctioned post for every 250 students. State Vice-President of the association Kiran Sarode, said: “Art is as important as sports education. Yet, there are two different rules for the two.
