The combination, popularly known as ‘float,’ brings in a dash of nostalgia for many – which is why, maybe, it is becoming increasingly popular on social media. But while an ice cream float may feel like harmless fun, nutrition experts say the combination is essentially a concentrated sugar-and-fat hit that deserves mindful consumption rather than everyday status. According to Mumbai-based fat loss coach and dietician Swati Sodhi, the biggest nutritional concern is what she calls “stacking sugar on sugar.” “A regular glass of cola already has around 25 to 35 grams of sugar. Add two scoops of ice cream, and you easily add another 20 to 25 grams of sugar, plus fat from cream,” Sodhi tells indianexpress.com. That means a single serving can climb to roughly 300-500 calories, largely from refined sugar and saturated fat, with minimal fibre and little protein.
