Aishwarya Rai’s co-star Abbas worked as a mechanic, drove taxis after becoming ‘destitute’   | Tamil News

Had somebody told the millennials back in the late 1990s that actor Abbas would not only lose his prominence over time but also be phased out, forcing him to find an alternate career, a large section of them would have straight-up laughed at the speaker’s face. They would have been like, “How on earth would Abbas — widely regarded as the chocolate boy, the heartthrob, and the ultimate crush of South Indian movie audiences — fade into obscurity?” However, that’s exactly what happened. Not only did Abbas lose prominence over the years, but he eventually had to take an indefinite break from the film industry, during which he made a living doing odd jobs in New Zealand before returning to the limelight recently. In a way, Abbas’ career perfectly embodies the adage, “what goes up must come down.” Must Read | Jana Nayagan reworked after CBFC battle: Producer reveals new songs, CM Vijay title card Abbas’ entry into cinema Born in Kolkata and brought up in Bengaluru, Abbas’ grandfather was a Bengali and Hindi film …

Thapelo Maseko: truck driver’s son who drove South Africa to the knockouts | Football News

4 min readChandigarhUpdated: Jun 25, 2026 09:41 PM IST From being ridiculed in some quarters as arguably the worst team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a game and a half, South Africa upset the odds by sealing their passage to the knockout rounds, a feat they hadn’t achieved in their previous three appearances, even when they hosted the tournament in 2010. And they did it without enduring the agony and suspense of the virtual contest among the third-place finishers in the 12 groups, advancing by right as the second-place finishers in Group A behind co-hosts Mexico. The hero in the 1-0 win over South Korea was Thapelo Maseko, the 22-year-old son of a truck driver. He grew up in Eatonside in Sebokeng in South Africa and the father still recalls the daunting journey to World Cup glory. “As the breadwinner, I sacrificed a lot for his career. I was actually the only person who was working. You had to get soccer boots and when they go to games, you had to organise their …

Rajesh Khanna flop destroyed my father, recalls Anil Kapoor: ‘Bollywood disowned him, drove me to become a hero’ | Bollywood News

Anil Kapoor has never shied away from speaking about his father, Surinder Kapoor, and how his relatively unfulfilled career as a film producer shaped Anil’s decision to become an actor. He has often said that he wanted to fulfil what his father could not achieve on his own terms, and build something that would make him proud. ‘My dad said he can’t make a film for me’ Anil spoke about how his father continues to be remembered for his integrity in the film industry. He told Lilly Singh: “My dad was a great guy, he was very, very humble, very honest, with a lot of integrity. He came to Mumbai, I think, in the late ’50s or early ’60s, I’m not sure. Then he became an assistant to K. Asif, and later became a manager to an actor. Wherever I went in this film fraternity, people would always tell me what a good man he was, what a nice man he was, what an honest man he was. Not how successful he was, you know. …

‘Embarrassed’ Priyanka Chopra was yelled at by the choreographer on set; he said she ‘drove me nuts’ | Bollywood News

Priyanka Chopra may be known as an ace dancer today, but in a recent interview, the actor has confessed that she struggled with two left feet in her early days in the Hindi film industry, back in the early 2000s. Priyanka recalled an incident from a shoot in South Africa where a choreographer yelled at her in front of the crew and left her “embarrassed.” “I was a dreadful dancer when I first started. I was not able to act and nail the choreography at the same time, plus coordinate with my co-star. It was just too many things for my 19- or 20-year-old brain,” admitted Priyanka in a chat with Vogue Arabia. In Indian films, dancing is seen as a prerequisite for actors as most Indian films have a song and dance routine. Priyanka made her Hindi film debut at 20 when she starred in Andaaz alongside Akshay Kumar. “I was filming with Raju Khan (son of legendary choreographer Saroj Khan) in South Africa and missing my marks. He got so upset with me …
