The police have identified the deceased persons as Pavan Sham Sathe, 18, and Raman Vijay Annapure, 20. Assistant police inspector Sheetalkumar Naik of Tokawade police station in Thane Rural said, “Sathe is a native of Buldhana district, while Annapure hails from Nanded.” “A prima facie probe revealed that Annapure is a student of engineering at a Pune college. Sathe had come to his brother’s place in Pune. Both of them do not know each other. They separately came from Pune to the Malshej Ghat area with their friends to see the Kalu waterfall,” said Naik. The police suspect that Sathe was swept away around 1.30 pm after the flow of the river increased due to heavy rainfall. A group of relatives had hired a car from Bengaluru to Muthathi on June 24. After offering prayers at the temples in Channapatna and Muthathi, they went to the Cauvery river for a dip. Reports suggest that the Gotarne family had hosted relatives on Thursday for the traditional ‘Dhondya-che Jevan’, a customary community feast. Four days after a 21-year-old youth drowned in the swimming pool at Eklavya Stadium in Jind, the police arrested the swimming coach, contractor and manager on charges of negligence. Police said the investigation in the case is underway and the swimming pool has been closed. (File) The arrested—swimming coach Ratinder, of Ekas village, contractor Deepak from Titoli village in Rohtak, and manager Ankush from Jamni Kheda village—had leased the pool from government for five years, they added. They were later released on bail. The incident happened on night of May 14 when the victim, Gaurav, had gone for swimming during evening but did not return home till around 8.30 pm. The family started searching for him and reached the pool area only to find victim’s body floating on water. He was taken to a hospital and was declared brought dead. A case was registered on the complaint of Gaurav’s father, Sanjay Jain, who alleged negligence in the operation and management of the swimming pool. Two persons, including a child, drowned and four went missing after a boat capsized in the Yamuna river, police said on Thursday. They said the incident took place on Wednesday evening in Kutubpur Patiya hamlet under Bhauli gram panchayat in the Kurara police station area when nine people, not including the boatman, were returning from a river island. According to police, the boat lost balance in the middle of the river and capsized around 7 pm. The boatman, Dheeru, managed to rescue three people — Vishnu, Rinku and Parul. The remaining six, five children and a woman, Akanksha (9), Rani (9), Brijrani (25), Labhyansh (5), Mahesh (6), and Aditya (11), went missing, police said. Police identified the deceased as rickshaw driver Bharat Devji Jadav (42), his two sons Dhaval (18) and Rohit (26) and his wife’s nephew, Dhruv Sanjay Makwana (15). The incident took place between 4 pm and 5 pm on Saturday when Bharat Devji Jadav (42) took his family members in a rickshaw near the edge of Aji Dam to wash the vehicle and pray at the Mogal Mata temple located there. Inspector H N Patel of Aji Dam police said they learnt from Mayur Naresh Jadav (16), a nephew of Bharat Jadav and one of the three survivors, that Rohit first went into the water, lost his footing and was struggling to stay above the water. Four youths drowned in two separate incidents near the Vaitarna dam in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, police said on Monday. According to police, four students from a local college entered the water at Zarwad Bet (an island) in the Vaitarna dam area on Sunday.  Two of them, identified as Aditya Pramod Vanare (20) and Veerendra Nandan Patil (20), drowned, and their bodies were fished out on Monday. Vanare was a resident of Buldhana district, while Patil hailed from Jalgaon, an official from Ghoti police station said. In another incident, two Nashik residents,  Atharva Sunil Gosavi (21) and Manish Dilip Chavan (21), drowned at the Dugarwadi waterfall near the dam on Sunday evening, he said.
