Fuming PCB To Escalate Matter Over Officials’ Snub At Champions Trophy Ceremony: Report

A controversy erupted on Sunday over the failure of the ICC to invite a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official on stage for the closing ceremony of the Champions Trophy in Dubai. A source said that the PCB’s chief executive officer Sumair Ahmed, who is also the director of the tournament, was present at the venue but was not invited for the ceremony. “PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi didn’t go to Dubai because of prior commitments as federal minister for interior but the PCB CEO was sent to represent Pakistan at the final and closing presentation,” the source said. He said for some reason or misunderstanding, the PCB official was not called on the podium, from where ICC chairman Jay Shah, BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Devajit Saikia gave away the medals, trophies, and jackets to the players. The source added that perhaps the CEO might not have been able to communicate properly to the ICC people responsible for organising the final ceremony and was left out. “Don’t Know How To Respond”: India Coach Sitanshu Kotak Loses Cool Over ‘Advantage’ Query

Just two days remain before the ICC Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand begins in Dubai. While the Indian team arrives into the title-decider with zero defeats to their name, New Zealand’s one and only loss came against their opponents in the final. Despite the fact that India have played near-perfect cricket to reach the final, a large chunk of credit for their journey so far, is being given to the venue in Dubai. India, unlike other teams in the Champions Trophy, have played all of their matches at a single venue – the Dubai International Cricket Stadium – while others have had to fly to multiple cities. It’s this reason that has made many assert that the Indian team had an ‘undue advantage’ in comparison to others in the Champions Trophy. Team India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, however, shut down the talks in the press conference on Friday, saying it’s not like the conditions in Dubai were changed after the Champions Trophy draw was made. “I don’t understand what advantage …

It has not been smooth sailing for the Indians in the showpiece event so far, having lost to New Zealand by 58 runs in their tournament-opener and then scampering home in 18.5 overs against arch-rivals Pakistan while chasing a modest 105. India’s main problem in the tournament so far is the performance of their batters, and all eyes will be on an otherwise free-flowing opening combination of Shafali Verma and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana who have struggled to give any momentum. India vs Pakistan, Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Harmanpreet Kaur’s India will take on Fatima Sana’s Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday. While the latter pulled off a win against Sri Lanka in their previous encounter, the former have been thrashed by New Zealand. It is too early in the tournament to say it is a must-win game for Harmanpreet’s side but the dent in Net Run Rate they took due to the heavy defeat on Friday means that they need to get back to winning ways immediately or given the nature of the competition with two teams qualifying out of five India might be looking down the barrel if they do manage to bag another loss on Sunday.
