Govt nod for construction of Rs 806 crore medical college in Delhi’s Dwarka, to be completed by 2028 | Delhi News

The Expenditure and Finance Committee (EFC) chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved the construction of a modern medical college and hostel complex at the Indira Gandhi Hospital campus in West Delhi’s Dwarka at an estimated cost Rs 806 crore, officials said. According to officials, the government has set a target to complete the project by 2028. Gupta said the project will include a full-fledged medical college, separate hostels for male and female students, faculty housing and a modern academic block. “The initiative is expected to address the growing demand for doctors in the Capital while significantly strengthening healthcare services in Delhi,” said the CM. She added that the medical college will be developed in accordance with National Medical Commission (NMC) norms. It will accommodate 250 MBBS seats every year, officials said, adding that the teaching activities will begin with an initial batch of 150 students. Dwarka, a planned sub-city in Southwest Delhi, is set to get a new medical college and a court complex next year. The government plans to convert the Dwarka district court into a medical college and construct a new district court near the National Law College, The Indian Express has learnt. Inaugurated in 2008, the district court in Dwarka is located in Sector 10, spread across an area of 3.70 Ha. It is a seven-storey building with four blocks. “A proposal was moved for constructing a new court complex after demolishing the current Dwarka court on the same plot. There was also another proposal for construction of a new medical college in Sector 14, near the law college. A 60-year-old homeless man died after he was attacked by stray dogs in Southwest Delhi’s Dwarka, police said on Friday. The attack happened near St Mary’s school in Dwarka’s Sector 19 on Tuesday night, when the deceased identified as Raju encountered a pack of stray dogs howling at him, officers said. “Raju ran towards a nearby park to save himself, but the dogs followed and attacked him. He was severely injured in the attack. His clothes were almost entirely torn off when police reached the spot,” a police officer said. He succumbed to his injuries on the intervening night of Wednesday (January 7) and Thursday( January 8) while undergoing treatment, they added. Raju is a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur, they added. According to the police, Raju had been living on roads and footpaths for over a year after leaving home following frequent domestic disputes.
