CBSE receives more than 70,000 verification, re-evaluation applications till 4 June date: Edu Ministry

Ministry of Education issued a statement on Friday with respect to CBSE post-result verification and re-evaluation process. The ministry said that the education board received a total of 7,314 applications for verification of marks and 63,119 applications for re-evaluation, ANI reported. “As of 4 June 2026, a total of 70,433 successful applications have been received through the CBSE post-result grievance redressal process, including 7,314 applications for Verification of Marks and 63,119 applications for re-evaluation. Despite a malicious Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack involving nearly 3.8 million packets on 3 June 2026, the portal remained protected and operational due to timely intervention by technical teams,” the Education Ministry said. According to the statement, the portal recorded approximately 1.5 million access requests within two minutes of launch at 4:30 AM on June 2. Detecting several requests as unauthorised access attempts, it blocked over 100,000 requests. It further confirmed that traffic profile showed coordinated high-volume request bursts consistent with DDoS-type patterns which were thwarted due to intense security arrangements. The statement added, “Prior to launch, the CBSE verification and re-evaluation …

Centre planning to expand audit of CBSE’s on-screen marking system amid concerns

Centre planning to expand audit of CBSE’s on-screen marking system amid concerns

The Union education ministry is planning to expand its scrutiny of the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) on-screen marking system to include a full audit of the platform’s implementation — from the tendering process through to actual execution — amid concerns over glitches and evaluation-related issues, people familiar with the matter said on Friday. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, during a meeting with CBSE officials, in New Delhi on Thursday. (ANI Video Grab) The move follows anger among parents and teachers, and a series of HT reports covering what appears to be a rushed process to roll out an entirely new mechanism for scoring nearly 10 million answer scripts despite concerns from those who tested the system. “The ministry’s immediate focus is to stabilise the re-evaluation portal with the help of the IIT teams so students can apply for scanned copies, raise objections and seek verification smoothly,” this person added, asking not to be named. “After completion of the re-evaluation process, the IIT team will also audit the OSM website and examine the system …

In bid to decentralise school governance, Centre mandates, empowers local committees

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. | Photo Credit: PTI In a move to decentralise school governance and align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Ministry of Education has issued comprehensive new guidelines mandating the formation of School Management Committees (SMCs), and granting them financial and operational powers to oversee and govern schools. The guidelines, which supersede all previous instructions under schemes like Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and the Right To Education Act, were launched by Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday (May 6, 2026).  They require every school across the country — including secondary institutions up to Class 12 — to constitute an SMC within one month of the start of the academic year. “The SMC will replace the existing School Management Development Committees (SMDC) to create a unified, streamlined approach to school leadership,” the guidelines said. Community-led structure The new framework emphasises that education is a “shared responsibility.” To ensure grassroots involvement, 75% of the SMC’s members must be parents or guardians and 50% must be women. The remaining 25% will include …

No leaves for medical students to prevent cheating in NEET UG| India News

No leaves for medical students to prevent cheating in NEET UG| India News

Medical students have been barred from taking leave on May 2 and 3 to prevent them from appearing as proxy candidates in the NEET-UG 2026 examination scheduled for May 3 — a practice flagged in past editions of the test. In NEET UG 2024, at least 7 MBBS students were arrested for either appearing as proxy candidates for aspirants or were part of solver gangs The National Medical Commission (NMC) has advised all medical colleges not to grant leave on those days barring “exceptional circumstances with due justification,” acting on a direction from the department of higher education (DoHE) under the Union ministry of education. On April 20, DoHE secretary Vineet Joshi wrote to Union health ministry secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, urging vigilance and sensitisation of students against any involvement in malpractices. He also recommended denying leave on May 2–3 except in justified cases. “In view of certain instances reported in the past… all medical colleges shall remain vigilant and ensure that medical students are sensitised against any involvement in activities prejudicial to the conduct …

NIOS finances under scrutiny as govt plans to enrol out-of-school children| India News

New Delhi: As the Ministry of Education prepares to strengthen the open schooling framework through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), as part of a nationwide effort to bring out-of-school children back into the education system, concerns have emerged over the institution’s finances and functioning. The findings come against the backdrop of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims for 100% enrolment from pre-school to secondary level by 2030. (Hindustan Times) A recent working paper by the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), a finance ministry think tank, highlights that NIOS has not received government budget support since 2012–13. Instead, it operates largely as a self-financing body, relying heavily on student fees, the paper notes. It further mentions that while NIOS has accumulated significant surpluses, its spending pattern raises questions. “In 2021–22, the institute generated about ₹188 crore in academic receipts and recorded a surplus of over ₹127 crore, with total reserves nearing ₹800 crore. However, expenditure on staff ( ₹65.8 crore) was more than double the spending on student academic …

Centre put on hold decision to restructure Panjab University’s governing bodies

The Union government has put on hold its decision to restructure Panjab University’s (PU) governing bodies — the senate and syndicate — until further notification, officials familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. The government had previously issued a notification on October 28. (HT Archives) The development follows meetings held on Tuesday and Wednesday between representatives of PU students and senior officials of the Union ministry of education, during which students voiced their concerns over the proposed changes. “The central government hereby rescinds the notification of the government of India in the ministry of education, Department of Higher Education, dated October 28, 2025,” a gazette notification issued by the Union education ministry dated November 4, mentioned. The ministry, however, issued a second notification on November 4, stating that the provisions of October 28 notification would come into effect on a date to be decided later by the Centre — unlike the earlier October 28 notification, which had said the changes would take effect immediately. “The ministry has decided that the recent notification regarding the governance structure …

Pradhan targets DMK over NEP, says Tamil enrolment falling in TN schools | India News

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in Rajya Sabha Tuesday that the Centre was not imposing Hindi but promoting multilingualism with its New Education Policy. Replying to a debate on the discussion on the working of the Education Ministry, Pradhan cited the example of Tamil Nadu and said that the NEP in fact promotes initial teaching in Tamil. He said that data from Tamil Nadu shows that more students were moving to English medium education in government schools. He said 67% of students were now in English medium schools, while Tamil medium enrolment dropped from 54% (2018-19) to 36% (2023-24). He added that at least 774 CBSE schools in the state were teaching Hindi as a third language. He said that youngsters from Tamil Nadu should not be denied the opportunity to grow and that he is ready to face any personal attacks from the DMK government.
