India’s Arjun Babuta and Elavenil Valarivan set World Record and Asian Championship record enroute their gold-winning performance in 10m air rifle mixed team final at the ongoing Asian Shooting Championship in New Delhi. Arjun and Elavenil combined to score 505 points in the final to successfully defend their Asian title. They finished ahead of Republic of Korea’s Kim Woorim and Kwon Eunji (501 points) and Japan’s Naoya Okada and Misaki Nobata (437.9 points). The previous record of 502.7 set by the German duo of Hanna Buehlmeyer and Maximilian Ulbrich at the ISSF Grand Prix in Slovenia last month. Compatriots Rudrankksh Patil and Meghana Sajjanar, who is eight months pregnant, finished third with a score of 629 in the qualification round. Elavenil Valarivan and Meghna Sajjanar claimed a double podium in the women’s 10m air rifle gold at the Asian Shooting Championship at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi on Saturday. Elavenil scored 252.0 points to top the final while Meghna shot 229.5 to settle for a bronze. Japan’s Misaki Nobata won the silver with 251.5 points. Another Indian in the final, Arya Borse, finished fourth with 209.0 points. Together, Elavenil, Meghna and Arya combined to win the team gold. Elavanil was India’s third individual gold medallist in the senior event after Esha Singh (air pistol) and Rudrannksh Patil (air rifle), respectively. More to follow.. In an elite set of final eight shooters, who all decided to shoot lights out in Cairo on the first day of the shooting World Championships, India’s Elavenil Valarivan first chased, then led, and finally tapered off for a bronze medal in a steely showing, typical of the shooter born in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. Elavenil, who has consistently shown the temperament to be a part of the national 10m Air rifle team, especially in a domestic setup teeming with some of the best in the world, was missing that one big medal until now. Ministry approves Shooter Elavenil Valarivan’s participation in ISSF World Cup

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) in their recent meeting approved Judokas Himanshi Tokas, Shraddha Chopade, and Asmita Dey’s proposals to participate in multiple competitions. While Junior Asian Championship Gold Medallist Himanshi Tokas and Junior Oceania Championship Gold medallist Shraddha Chopade will be heading to Paris, France Grand Slam; Baku, Azerbaijan Grand Slam; Tashkent, Uzbekistan Grand Slam and Linz, Austria Grand Prix, Junior Asian Cup Gold medallist Asmita Dey will join them in Paris for the France Grand Slam. MYAS, under its Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding will cover their Airfare, Boarding/Lodging, insurance, and local transportation costs for all these competitions and training periods. During the meeting, MOC also approved shooter Elavenil Valarivan’s request to participate in the upcoming ISSF World Cup in Spain under Ranking Point Only (RPO) category. Her Airfare, entry fee, training fee, local transportation cost, visa, and insurance charges among other expenditures will be covered under TOPS funding. Source link
