Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday criticised the proposed constitutional amendment bills, claiming they have little to do with women’s empowerment and are instead aimed at altering India’s electoral landscape. Speaking during a debate in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi argued that the bill does not genuinely focus on women’s reservation. He alleged that it is being presented under the guise of women’s empowerment while pursuing a different political objective, reported the PTI. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban concedes defeat in a European electoral earthquake | World News

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban concedes defeat in a European electoral earthquake | World News

Hungarian voters on Sunday ousted long-serving Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power, rejecting the authoritarian policies and global far-right movement that he embodied in favor of a pro-European challenger in a bombshell election result with global repercussions. Election victor Péter Magyar, a former Orbán loyalist who campaigned against corruption and on everyday issues like health care and public transport, has pledged to rebuild Hungary’s relationships with the European Union and NATO — ties that frayed under Orbán. European leaders quickly congratulated Magyar. It’s not yet clear whether Magyar’s Tisza party will have the two-thirds majority in parliament to govern without a coalition. With 77% of the vote counted, it had more than 53% support to 38% for Orbán’s governing Fidesz party. It’s a stunning blow for Orbán, a close ally of both U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Orbán conceded defeat after what he called a ?painful? election result. “I congratulated the victorious party,? Orban told followers. “We are going to serve the Hungarian nation and our homeland from …

Tamil Nadu voter deleted from electoral roll reminds Supreme Court of promise to protect in case of ‘mass exclusion’

C. Geetha had moved the apex court after the Madras High Court dismissed her plea. | Photo Credit: The Hindu The Supreme Court on Friday (April 10, 2026) refused to intervene for a woman whose name was deleted from the Tamil Nadu electoral roll in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) even as she reminded the court, as a parting shot, of its promise to step in if the SIR leads to “mass exclusions” across the country. The petitioner, C. Geetha, said her name had been a mainstay in the State’s electoral roll over the years. She was even intending to contest as an independent candidate in the 51-Uthangarai (SC) Assembly Constituency and 52-Bargur Assembly Constituency in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026. Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: The social engineering behind Kerala’s electoral battle

Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: The social engineering behind Kerala’s electoral battle

In Kerala, elections are as much about society as they are about politics. With the State approaching another Assembly polls, parties are once again redrawing invisible lines, competing to secure the trust of communities and set the direction of social change. One of the most-telling signs of this churn emerged during the local body elections in December 2025, when central Travancore witnessed an unusual political experiment. The Bharatiya Janata Party fielded a new crop of young Catholic candidates in a region where the community has long held electoral influence. Though Christian candidates have been a familiar presence in Kerala politics, the timing of this move stood out. It came in the immediate aftermath of the arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh on charges of forced conversion, an incident that had unsettled the community. Electorally, the move did not yield much results, with most of these candidates failing. But politics is rarely about immediate victories alone. The signal the BJP sought to send was clear and its implications are now being closely watched by rival …
