You need to listen to this compilation of ‘80s Spanish ambient and electronic music

Much of La Ola Interior (Spanish Ambient & Acid Exoticism 1983-1990) sounds shockingly contemporary for a collection of tracks recorded in the mid to late ‘80s. Ambient as a genre was already relatively well established by the time many of the artists on this compilation recorded their songs. But as we neared the end of the century, much of the scene in the US and Japan was beginning to push into New Age territory. These artists from the Spanish peninsula were trafficking in something much more experimental. La Ola Interior covers a lot of stylistic ground. There’s despondent drones, classic analog synths excursions, detached chants, field recordings, and, yes, even some more rhythmically forward tracks. But what unites it all is a clearly DIY aesthetic and a demand for your attention. Often, ambient music is designed to fade into the background. It “must be as ignorable as it is interesting,” according to Brian Eno. And while some of the tracks on La Ola Interior could serve as background music, most beg for close listening. The …

Assam’s Electronic City Will Be Named After Ratan Tata: Himanta Sarma

The upcoming Electronic City in Jagi road, which will host India’s first semiconductor plant, will be named after industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday. The decision, taken during a Cabinet meeting, is to honour Mr Tata, who died on October 9, 2024, the Chief Minister said. According to Mr Sarma, Mr Tata’s decision to set up the semiconductor plant in Assam has been a game changer. “In recognition to the contribution of the Tata group and late Ratan Rata, the state cabinet has decided to name the entire area covering the semiconductor plant, electronic park, and proposed Electronic City township as Ratan Tata Electronic City. If Ratan Tata would not have taken the bold decision to set up a semiconductor plant here, we would not have seen so much interest and response from other top industrialists towards investments in Assam,” Mr Sarma said. As a mark of recognition to the tremendous role and contribution of Late Ratan Tata and the Tata Group towards the state’s development, #AssamCabinet …

Greater Noida: Four held for tampering with electronic weighing scales for financial gain

The Gautam Budh Nagar police, along with the SWAT (special weapons and tactics) team, busted a large-scale electronic weighing scale fraud operating across multiple states and arrested four individuals for manipulating weighbridges using electronic chips and remote-control devices to alter weight measurements. The suspects in police custody on Thursday. (HT Photo) Police said the fraud has been detected across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka. The arrested individuals have been identified as Kapil Kumar and Manmohan Singh, both residents of Delhi, Vinay Kumar Sharma, a resident of Sonbhadra, and Dheeraj Sharma, a resident of Gurugram. According to police, the suspects would lure weighbridge owners with lucrative offers and install custom-made electronic chips inside the weighing machines. These chips, controlled via remote, allowed operators to manipulate the weight readings—either inflating or reducing the weight as per their preference. The fraud led to massive financial losses for companies dealing in construction materials such as steel bars, sand, and gravel, said Saad Miyan Khan, deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida. “During interrogation, Kapil Kumar that …

Poll Rules Tweak Makes Electronic Records Harder To Get, Sparks Row

A court case triggered the amendment, according to Law Ministry and EC officials New Delhi: The government has tweaked an election rule to prevent public inspection of certain electronic documents such as CCTV cameras, webcasting footage, and video recordings of candidates to prevent their misuse. This has led to the Opposition accusing the government of “eroding integrity of the electoral process”. EC officials have said misuse of CCTV camera footage from inside polling booths could compromise voter secrecy. They also said the footage could be used to generate fake narrative using artificial intelligence (AI). The Union Law Ministry on Friday amended Rule 93(2)(a) of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, to restrict the type of “papers” or documents open to public inspection, based on a recommendation by the Election Commission (EC). According to Rule 93, all “papers” related to elections shall be open to public inspection. The amendment, however, inserts “as specified in these rules” after “papers”. A court case triggered the amendment, according to Law Ministry and EC officials. While documents such as nomination …
